Question how to install UMD activated led ?

HI ALL !

I'm new on the forum and I couldn't find infos using the search fonction about how to have on the psp (fat) a led that would react if there is activity on the umd so I decided to post this thread for requesting help.
Actually, I would like to put trigger leds, but I'd like them to be "UMD sensitive". Ideally, they would always be on, except when there is UMD activity where they would start blinking.
I saw once a mod on the web that was performing similar thing so I know it's technically possible to catch appropriate electronic signal from the UMD drive (lazer ?) to control a led. But I can't find it again either with google or with the search fonction of pspmod...
If anyone has infos or link I'd be very gratefull !
Thank you for your help !

EDIT : I made a mistake, the mod I saw is in fact using the memory stick

Actually, it is possible to get the "blinking led's" on the psp, but one way i know of is to run it off the memstick led spot. Like a H.D.D the mem stick also blinks as it thinks or is accessed. you can simply wire some led's to your triggers from the mem stick led circut. Even though this is different from the umd linking to the led's it still serves the same purpose. I would just think that if it were made for the umd, the lights would just stay lit or blink non-stop, because the laser is always reading the disc as you play through the game because its always loading the info to the psp. I may be wrong, but the mem stick could do the same.

You would probably be best off using a sensor that wil detect the motion of the umd or more likely a light-sensor that will detect the umd laser.

If you need help PM me

Default how to install UMD activated led ?

Hello,
The mod I saw that I was talking about, I could finally find again the video on utube and in fact the trigger leds were just connected to the MS orange led unlike what I thought. So it seems that if I were to perfom the idea (UMD activity trigger leds), I would have to start from zero, as, apparently, nobody has done it before. As I don't have enough electronic knowledge (and tools), I think I will give up. And on another hand, maybe you're right Brandon : maybe the leds would blink non-stop during some games so it would be quite disturbing. But if I decide to try it anyway, I think I will not try your idea Chaotic of using a sensor. I would prefer (if possible) some electronic way (ie using some signal on the UMD board) because I fear that it would be impossible to have a sensor detect the lazer beam without affecting it and avoiding it to work properly. But I might be wrong. (sorry for my approximate english, it's not my native language) Anyway, I like the idea of connecting a transistor to the appropriate circuit on the UMD board to control the leds because it's cheaper and seems to me more reliable (also I'd like to make a tutorial if I can have it working). So I would research in this way. I would dismantle my psp and take measures during UMD access in order to find where to connect the led controlling transistor. As I said, I have very little electronic knowledge, so if anyone with enough background finds the idea interesting and motivating and wants to try it out, please don't hesitate !
On my side, if I find courage to take apart my PSP and start investigate the UMD drive, I will surely PM you Chaotic for help !

The laser is pretty bright so, you would probably be able to mount a sensor to the side of the laser and just have it detect the light that bounces off of the umd. Using a signal from the mobo would be a lot harder not only to figure out what you need to solder to, but also you would risk damaging your motherboard. Also, I would recommend soldering it to the hold switch so that if it does annoy you, you may disable it during a game or whatever.

I have a spare motherboard, so if you would like, I could do the mod on my motherboard, then show a video to prove it functions. Then sell the motherboard to you. (You also could send me your psp, but it isn't smart to do with people you don't know since people on the internet have been known to rip people off.) I am in R&D on Acidmods, so I'm pretty good at working on new hardware mods.

If interested you can im me at:

Also, if you wanna do it yourself, you can ask me any questions you have.
