Post PSP USB Connector

Hi,

I have a phat PSP who's USB port at the top is messed up. By that I mean the pins are all bent and it basically doesn't work anymore. I am planning to replace the port, by removing it from the motherboard, and replacing it with a new receptacle.....(the part is here: digikey # 670-1190-1-ND)

So I'm wondering if anyone out there has attempted this before...if so, how? And if not, can you give some recommendations or theoretical instructions?

Thank-you

BTW: my motherboard is one of the originals, not the TA-82's...if it makes any difference, and thx again.

Yes, that is a possibility, buying a new motherboard...but it would cost much more than a few $ for the usb connector, so lets hope someone can give some advice for the cheaper way

Does the connector use pins or pads? SMD soldering is tricky, but it'll be cheap and easy if the connector uses pins rather than BGA or some other crazy crap. There's a lot of tutorials online for doing this with celphones, though I haven't found anything specifically for PSP's. Google something like mobile phone usb repair and you should turn up something useful.

Good luck, and don't buy a new mobo unless you screw up...No point in spending $60 when you can do it for under $15.

I bought a usb connector from mouser.com and I'm pretty sure the pins line up. I could check and sell it to you if you want...

thanks! Intergalactic Captain, i found this link

hxxp://computerguru365.blogspot.com/2006/02/diy-blackberry-usb-repair.html

it's pretty much exactly what I was looking for! (only difference is that they're using a blackberry, but the desoldering and soldering of the usb mini type b port is all the same!

oh, and Cha0ticBliss, i would like to know whether the pins line up and if so, which connector you're using, and I have a few spare connectorsin many devices that I can use....but thx though.
