First, Im new to the site, so hello all. I have a old PSP that hardly ever gets used and I am wanting to get set up. First of all it has the original firmware (1.0) on it. Can someone hold my hand for a bit and get me goin? I would appreciate any help. Thanks. |

oh. my. god.
GUYS GUYS HE HAS A 1.0, EVERYBODY RUSH HIM!!!
whoops, i hit tab-enter, so i kinda made a premature post... guys you all know how that feels right?
well hawk, first off welcome to the psp world, i hope you have fun here, secondly, well.... thats about it, i personally like the pandora way of installing a CFW but im 99% sure that you can start some kinda upgrade-chain goin to get you to 3.90 m33 it probabally just takes alot of different files etc... h/o i'll try some looking for you, see if i can't help you somehow
what are you lookin to do, play backups/emulators/just have a custom firmware psp to show off?
edit: yea but seriously, i would kinda think about buying another psp and kinda framing that one you got.. dude you have a 1.0, A ONE POINT OH thats amazing, truely! if you're not really that afraid, i'd try (if i were you) making a magic memory stick and a pandora battery and then backing up the NAND so that you can just kinda wave that file around and say HEY WORLD, LOOKIT ME, I GOT A 1.0 AND YOU DONT, HA!
sorry if all this seems a bit rant-ish, i just got home from a school concert and im kinda tired...
your best bet right now would be to NOT take my advice and wait untill someone with more common sense and knowlage comes along... but honestly, i'd look into saving a backup of the 1.0 firmware, just because what you have is like history and stuff... you know? i mean, not everyone has 1.0 anymore.. ok im going to bed, sorry i was no real help

What's the point of that? You can do next to nothing with the original firmware even including homebrew. All the worthwhile projects have moved ahead for slim support, new games won't run on older versions, the XMB has less audio and video codecs, the only wireless encryption available is WEP, and so on. Keeping 1.00 just for "bragging rights" would be monumentally wasteful. |

So can a 1.0 firmware do something that a brand new PSP cant? Sounds like I should ebay the original and buy a new one. But if not, the second post by ctighe sounds like the way to go, correct? |

I stand corrected. Its firware version 1.5. I believe 1.0 was only in Japan. Anyway its an original American Firmware. I am thinking about wiping the nastalgia away and going ahead with the firmware update, unless someone wants to talk me out of it. |
