Default Can I replace my mobo with a different ta#?

Hi folks, brand new here. I ruined my mobo by tearing the narrow ribbon cable connector for the LCD from the motherboard. I want to get a new one so that I can get it up and running again. The problem is that my motherboard is old. TA-079. All that I can find for sale are TA-081, TA-082, and TA-086. Will any of these work as a replacement in my unit?
Thanks!

You can replace a TA-079 with any TA-079 or -081 motherboard, -082's and -086's are known to have issues with non -082/6 wifi boards.

Before you buy anything, though, inspect your motherboard. It sounds like you ripped up the backlight clip, if the four solder pads are still there and you can solder it's a relatively easy fix.

Cut your backlight ribbon back enough to solder a 2 tiny wires to it. Lightly sand the "top" side (the one that the traces look coppery through) until you get down to bare copper and solder your two wires to it. Solder these two wires to the corresponding outer two solder pads - These are the pads used by the original connector, the inner two pads serve no purpose.

It's relatively fine work, but if you're good with a soldering iron it's not particularly difficult.

I'm not sure that I know what you mean by solder pads. The outer one on the far left (closest to the main lcd connector ) reads to me as a small blob of solder. The 2 center ones are just dark color and the outside right one is dark orange colored as well with a tail that is lifted. (If that description makes any sense.) Only solder is on the left one. Does it matter that I never do/will use the wifi feature? Or does it matter regarding the memory stick reader. Thanks!

And no, I am not particularly good with a soldering iron. I've soldered before, but mostly guitar electronics, not micro circuit boards. I really don't think I can do it. I'm a 46 year old woodworker who's eyes aren't what they once were!

Well, if that's the case, shoot me a PM - If you can trust me with your PSP I can probably fix it for ya, if not I'll at least take the motherboard off your hands (no sense in sending it to a landfill).

...Not sure on whether the memstick will work, all my current parts are TA-082/6 - Don't have any 079/081 wifi modules to swap and test...
