Old Help with a found PSP - any way to open it up? 01-29-2006, 05:28 AM   #1 (permalink)

Default Help with a found PSP - any way to open it up?

Hi everyone, I had a couple questions.
My father found a PSP at a bus stop; unfortunately its been raining pretty hard so its soaking wet.
Is there any way I can remove the outer shell without voiding a warranty or damaging it? I want to let it dry out more if possible. I unscrewed two screws in the back, however it wouldn't pop off and I didn't want to force it without asking someone.
We're going to watch the wanted ads, so I don't want to destroy this person's system/warranty.
Any thoughts about it? Will it eventually work?
Thank you anyone who replies.

i reckon it wont work, but a good trick which i use when i drop the remote for my hovercraft in the pool is to take it apart and let it dry in the sun. if you want to take it apart , you have to void the warranty. there are a few screws under the sticker in the battery compartment. there are instructions on google. the screen probably wont work, just like my phone that went through the wash. but after you dry it and it turns on, if the screen doesnt work you can get one on ebay for $70.

if i were you i would keep it.

chances are is that there is a water damage sticker on it. when a liquid of any kind touches it it changes color. this will let sony know that there was water damage and it was the owners fault. not only that but if it was completely submerged in water it most likely wll retain water and sony will know that way.

i didnt think that the ps3 was out lol

it depends what psp it is as well if it came from japan then the one year warranty could now be invalid

or as sublime said but hell give it a try!

Just stick it on ebay, i mean if you make £10 its money you didnt have before

if u open up all the ports and let it dry out for 3 days, it should work-except the games may not load. thats what a review in popular science mag said!

if i recall correctly, the warranty requires prior registration, which few people do, and even so if the person did register it, you don't qualify because you are not the person who made the registration. there are ways to open the system but it requires that you break the warranty and thats teh only way. if they was some other way, sony would have done something about it. if you really want to take it apart, there is this book that shows you how

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...sbn=0471778877

it has detailed instructions on how to take it apart and other random stuff for people new to the psp... i have the book cuz it went on sale for 9.99 yesterday... something maybe people who look at this site and get lost should read... most of the stuff is outdated compared to this site tho so yea...

just dry it up carefully then get an ac adaptor for it... those things range around 9.99.. or borrow one or something and test it out... cuz sony ain't taking it back
