Internalizing my PhotoFast CR-3100
well i had some sucess and some issues. I got the photofast installed and formatted the cards so thats good. I had to use a 1gb and 2gb normal SD because i dont have the 2 16GB sdhc till tomorrow.
here are the issues.
I am unable to get the psp to boot up with the memory stick plugged in, I have to take the card out then power it up.
I also cant power the psp down without popping the battery out.
Last issue is, while i was browsing in the XMB it was working good then it started to lag big time. i dont know if that is because i dont have the SDHC cards.
Any ideas?

This was a slim right? Did you remember to remove the UMD switch so it's not being held down thinking a UMD is in the drive?
Speed issue could be your cards. Try blackspeed and see what score you get. |

I did remove the UMD switch. I took out the whole this including springs and all. So the ribbons arent plugged in. Is that ok?

I was meaning the switch thats mounted on the motherboard though. You can eaither remove it, or just clip the piece of plastic off. |

Im sorry i guess i dont know what switch you are talking about. If you mean the spring that has the clear plastic holding it in then yes that is off. I didnt really feel that it needed to be there. I am currently putting it back together and making sure everything is in place. I should have my cards within the hour. If the booting with the card in is still an issue i think i may just waste 25 and get another photofast 3100.

The switch is attached right on the motherboard, it pokes through the casing into the UMD bay. When a umd is in, it holds down the switch. ANyways, I just used wire cutters and cut mine off, but you will for sure have to do that or the system will hang. |

there is one in the top left yes, im talking about the one more near the middle though.
I broke one of those connectos on the phat i have. I just taped it down then wedged a piece of plastic to apply downwards pressure and its been fine. Ive opened and closed the ones on my slims alot and no problems though, they seem a bit tougher. |

Hey Flash... Yes there is a known issue with 1st generation photofast (3100-5400) and PSP1000-1001 units... Some people seem to have better luck with it... So im thinking photofast fixed it with their second batch..
With the 5400 is very delicate. You will fry it if you boot up the psp with it inside. You have remove it every time.. sucks.. but i been using it for the last 3 weeks flawlessly by remembering to remove it first in my fat psp..
The 3100 seems to withstand more punishment, i got mine to work also... If your psp boots up and all you see is the memory light blinking, remove the battery and format the SD cards using the PC. Do a "complete" format not a fast one.
Boot up your psp without inserting the 3100... once your PSP is booted insert your SD cards (in the 3100) and connect it to your PSP. Your PSP will then prompt you to format. You should be good to go...
I would highly recommend anyone trying this mod to first make sure your PSP can read/format the cards before you take it apart as you will need to remove/insert a few times to get it to work.. It makes it easier to do it out side the psp instead of it being inside...

It was the one under the lcd, the big one. taped it down with electrical tape, then i just careve a hunk of plastic off a juice bottle or something, it was sort of a V shaped piece. Then i put that over the connector, and when the PSP is reassebled the force of the lcd pushing down on the plastic was enough to maintian the connection. its been fine ever since i did that. |
