If it is really unhackable, I wouldnt expect to find a cheap 2000, they will still be in demand. |

Hoping to use one for GPS in my car and fix up the other one and sell it on ebay once the 3000 comes out.

My only concern would be the cost effectiveness of this mod vs SDHC mod using a $3 USB SDHC card reader, $6 DUO-microsd converter, and a single 32gig SDHC card that you can find on newegg for $127.
Both ways has some advantages... Fastcard...... vs...... USB
~$170USD........... ~$140USD
Easy to do........... requires some soldering skills.
internal............... internal mod also
Only sdhc............ can use 6 different types of mem cards if you use a 6 to 1 card reader.
$30 difference is a lot... what do you all think..? | could you elaborate on this? i have decent soldering and modding skills and i will like to know what exact readers one can use for the cheap way you compared this too. i went looking for the parts and i cant seem to find the right ones.
let me try to outline this:
you solder the duo converter to the psp card reader and you mount the usb reader into the converter(if this converter is what im thinking it is). im i right?
i will like to see the converters you talk about. that will clear my thoughts.
im all out for the cheapest way into things. so while syph mode was a huge idea and an awesome mod i would like a cheaper way |

If you want to solder in an SD adapter, you need the transcend adapter. TS512MUSD-MS or TS1GUSD-MS or TS2GUSD-MS.
The adapter gets soldered or placed in the Mem card slot. Then you need to attach a ribbon cable to the microsd terminals of the adapter and the terminals of the SD slot you are going to use. Typcially people take that from a USB SD reader. YouTube - SD Card in PSP 4gulli
Of course this only lets you use one 16gb card, but its still better than buying a 16gb mem stick.
I did try this and it was harder than I thought. I've soldered plenty, but this was smaller work than I was used to. If you have more experience go for it. I liked my mod better though since I didnt have to solder anything and it was very fast.

The way that I've seen it done is that they get a microsd to pro duo adapter. Then they get a usb SD reader and remove the "female" SD port. They then rip up an old ide cable and conned the SD female leads to the microSD-produo adapter leads.

and this rule of not posting URLs until after making 15 posts is VERY annoying. |

after doing days and days of research, syph's mod with the CR-3100 is by far the easiest and the most cost effective, future proof mem upgrade you can do on the PSP.
Besides, all the problems/headaches that can come about by doing the single SDHC mod isn't worth the extra few bucks you save. Lets not forget the performance of the CR-3100 exceeds that of the single SDHC mod.
On that note; i'm sure everyone will be happy to hear that i did find a local, US dealer that has the CR-3100 and CR-5400 in stock, ship same day and cheaper than ebay... I ordered both the 3100 and 5400 for about the same price that guy on ebay is selling his.. Get it while supplies last!!!
you can get them here for $50

You'll thank me later.. |

Guys,
With the following: PhotoFast CR-5400 Dual Socket Micro SD SDHC to MS Pro Duo Adapter for PSP 8GB 16GB 32GB 64GB
Wouldn't it just be easier to buy that adapter, and wait for the 16 GB micro sds that should be coming pretty soon?
I don't know, just an idea.
EDIT:
It also seems that Sandisk now has a 32 GB SD card available, which means you can go up to 64 GB. However, it is currently tagged at 180 USD at their official site. So man, it's out of the normal person's reach for now.
Cheers.

just saw your edit, it is just what i was thinking, those card must be expen$ive
one question:
These fixes are for use with SD memory. does it has MAgic gate or something similar? is the psp able to work with it even when it doesnt has it?? what is magic gate for and how it works? why doesnt it finds that memory to be unknown or something like that?
with that link and such a great price that other mod and all the hassle is innecesary.
im off to search for answers |

Javelin,
Basically, all I know about MagicGate is, without it, if you download games from the PSN Stores, it won't work. I forgot where I saw this, but I read it somewhere. I -think- it is needed in the creation of MMS, but I believe that there are some threads around here who have had success of making MMS-es without MagicGates.
With the adapter, 29 USD + 23 USDx2 for two 8 GB MicroSDhcs, that's about just a little under 80 USD for a 16 GB card that's probably faster than Sony's crappy 16 GB MSPD which is currently tagged at an insane price, still. Basically, just keep one MagicGate enabled card, for flashing purposes.
Cheers. |

@mclain, the problem you will encounter with the single sdhc to microsd produo adapter is they dont make a microsd/produo adapter that supports 32gb, I think the largest memory the microsd/produo adapter supports right now is 16gb and those are hard to find, I thought about doing the single sdhc mod also until i found this out, so if you did do it the psp would only recognize 16gb of the 32gb because of the restriction from the adapter.

For the link I provided, the adapter supports up to 16 GB for a Micro SDHC in each slot, which allows for a max storage of 32 GB. Quote:
Product Specification:

Cheers. | Yeah Ive seen it, the same seller I deal with in japan sells these, Im the one that posted the link to the cr-3100, I also posted a link to the cr-5400 he's selling, but the cr-3100 is a better deal because it goes up to 64gb I already bought it I just havent bought the sdhc cards yet. the cr-5400 is $58 and the cr-3100 is $68, so the 3100 was a better deal for me, Ive already internalized it just waiting to get paid friday to buy my sdhc cards. and when they take the 32gb memory cap off, hopefully on the next firmware update, im going to bump up to 64gb. the 3100 is the way to go if you dont use you umd ever, like me. I havent used it once since custom firmware, but thanks for your input
