HI ALL,

Need Help with this one.

1) I broke the UMD plastic door, it broke totally off, I can still play games using a rubber band keeping the metal UMD slot closed, or holding the metal door in place with my hand.

2) I order a new UMD plastic door from Ebay, I open up the system, remove everything up until i removed the mother board. I clean off the broken piece of hinge from the old UMD plastic door. I snap the new door in, put the motherboard back, put the LCD casing back. and notice that the new door fits nicely, hardly any gap.

3) putting everything back together, booting it up... everything looks good! but when I put a UMD in, it just has this whirling sound of the disc being spun, but after a while it fail to read.

4) i tried cleaning up the laser with alcohol and qtip, thinking maybe it got dirty during the repair, but that didn't seem to help. i went back in and reseated the laser ribbon, still same. weez weez, tap, tap, tap. the laser is tapping to the left. I watch the laser while I have the LCD pried up.

Does anyone have any tips? the laser should be good... is there an adjustment that i needed to do? did i forget something?

thanks

If you already checked the flex circuit connections, there isnt anything else you can do. Its dead. Those drives pretty much suck anyway and will fail.

6stiches,

Honestly, dont bother replacing it. Perform the 32gb mod by Syph instead.

Cheers.

I always hated the UMD drive anyway. Only Sony is crazy enough to think its a good idea to put an optical drive on a handheld game system... I say dont bother replacing it unless you really really use it. Put something else in there and enjoy the better battery life.

Ah crap, they are hosted on my site, which seems down at the moment. Thats what I get for using a 5 dollar a month web server host.

Edit: My sites up again, so the pix should be back. I guess I should put them somewhere else, but im pretty lazy.
