Help a N00b please?

ok i've been researching the whole PSP thing for a few weeks now. Say I buy a new PSP today, it will have firmware 2.whatever. What will I need to get it to play d/l games and will it work? I see a lot of people on here trying to downgrade their firmware. Whats that all about? THANKS!!!

If it's 2.6 then no go, if you happen to get a 2.0 then you can downgrade.
Now onto your next question, if your talken about downloading ISO images of GAMES that are copyrighted, that's a no no... we don't condone piracy, if your talken about ROM's thats a little different, a ROM is a image of a game from years ago.. I.E. Donky Kong.... now typically you should have the original cart to be able to use the ROM, but that doesn't seem to really be frowned upon if you don't.... I hope that clears it up.. you might want to CLICK HERE to get more of an IDEA on what the big deal is about different firmware.

if you have 2.01 or a higher firmware you will need gta lcs (original umd ...) and load eboots (executable for games and applications for psp, similar to and .exe in windows) via a 'special' savegame and you can NOT downgrade from that firmware, not all eboots work and theres no usb or wifi available for eboots running via the gta eloader
