Default psp overclock?

i know what ur thinking from the title.. i'm a total newb asking some stupid question. well im not
i recently stumbled upon this (dont ask me how)

PSP mod inexplicably adds a cooling fan

it made me think (well one of the comments did). what is the fastest possible overclock of the psp? technically, 333mhz isn't an overclock. its the psp's normal speed. 2 me, everything below is an underclock.

so with a cooling fan, could u overclock to a much higher speed without overheating? the ONLY down sides would be the short battery life and faster wifi chip burnage.

technecly, normal on psp is limmited to 222 mhz, 333 mhz is its maxed, overclocking will do alot more dammage then wifi burn and battery burn, it will be moreless full mobo burn in hell damage.

333 is fast enough for anything. If you wanna playa bout with overclocking, make sure u do it with a psp you can afford to lose.

umm 333MHz is probably the psp's max processing power, no if you rewrote some code, and somehow put a larger processor on the motherboard then yeah the fun would allow higher speeds

I'm gona say it can be done but the increased voltages needed to ramp up the clock speed would almost definately be beyond the safe operating range of the various circuits in use on the PSP, and they might only operate at a certain speed anyway.

Any significant increase in clockspeed would break something.

The question is why would you want to? Similar to the people who ask about more RAM, what would you do with a few extra Mhz? You obviously couldn't get it up to anything significant like a Ghz, so what would be the point?

Oh, and 333Mhz is the default clock speed.

222Mhz, but it's quite common for manufacturers of portable devices to run them under the maximum speed for various reasons, mainly preventing any overheating and keeping battery life high. It also gives them overheads, so if they ever needed/wanted that extra bit more power for something in the future, it's there.

To further this theory, check out this old article from 2005 about the then upcoming GT4 portable:

just read it , so you mean to say that the games currently only uses 2/3 of the psps power? or are there games that use it?

Correct, i'm pretty sure no games use the full power yet, but i could be wrong. As i said above, what is out now only needs 222mhz, but maybe future games will use it like GT4 Portable was meant to.
