UMD thought

Now this is a thought I just had. (which has probably already been thought) Is it possible to create homebrew UMDs? you know, just order some blank umds, and a umd drive from some site somewhere or whatnot and put games, emulators, or movies on it. If this seems possible this might be an exploit to the 3000's later versions. And you wouldn't have to go through some of the insanity of changing firmware and all that...just brainstorming here, just wondering what other peoples thoughts might be.

you would need a blank umd as well as the software and hardware to author it, so if you worked for sony and stole that shit, then yes in theory you could

Thats a good idea, i reckon we should have something like the r4 geneator for ds though.

Im sure if it was that simple it would have been done by now. Im guessing the code has to be signed and engineered by sonys own machines. Its like making a genuine sony disc and bypassing the need for a chip (on the psone) it was never done with CD`s and everyone has a cd burner and blanks. I would also guess that the only place that makes/has UMD discs is sony HQ and they arnt going to sell them lol

Well, I think that it would be advantageous in the future if sony started making UMDs more widespread at some point in the future. Because with the PSPs and their being able to connect to a tv, if you have a massive umd movie collection, that is a mobile movie player. like taking a dvd player with you wherever you go, plus being able to hook it up to your tv at home for the same effect as a dvd player. Plus when you throw in the ability to add blu-ray technology to this in the future, sony could have something big. blu-ray made dvds go from 5 gb to 50 gb, think of this applied to these little tiny 2 gb discs. I think if they play their cards right, UMD could be the next huge thing....and it makes me mad they are keeping it to themselves lol

yes its definitely possible providing you had the IMPOSSIBLE to get blank umd and the code to get it written. Nobody but sony developers have blank umd's and the programs necessary to write to them.

Actually the software to burn them was leaked about 3 years ago...But, it's useless as of now because blank UMDs are not sold to consumers, and neither are the burners.
