Talking PSP cooling block by RDL_Jamaican

hello everybody, i have added an effective cooling block to my PSP that does not require any additional power and cools VERY effectively. the PSP's CPU was design to run at up to 333Mhz but they get very hot and if not cooled properly the life span WILL be shorten so Sony set the PSP's CPU to run at just 266Mhz(i think because of heating problem). its not that Sony didnt know that the CPU could run at 333Mhz. Then came CFW and homebrew, then people started using the full capability of the CPU and started running it at full speed(333Mhz) but there is always a heating problem, people just didnt know because nobody has never took a temperature reading of the CPU and GPU running at various speeds. I did a test and i couldnt believe how hot the CPU and GPU gets at 333Mhz, it scared me so i reset my CPU clock back to 266Mhz and think of a way how i could cool the CPU and GPU effectively instead of just installing a fan in the back of the case like most stupid mods that i have seen, adding a fan at the back of the PSP does absolutely nothing but blow ambient air around in the case or shell so i just think that was a waste of time and power as if your are running the PSP and the fan at the same time off the battery it will drain the battery so fast, so i just think the whole adding a fan was stupid. then i start thinking about how to cool the CPU in that flat space and this is what i did.

Got a flat enough heatsink

Cut out enough to cover the CPU, GPU and the RAM chips

Clean off the surface area of the heatsink that will be touching the chips and apply heatsink compound to the chips, i use Arctic Silver 5

reassemble and you are good to good 333Mhz and beyond

http://www.youtube.com/v/A5pJtsYYQ9I&hl=en&fs=1&

you will be so surprise when you find out how hot the heatsink gets, i am planning to use the additional space i have to install a fan that will only turn when the psp is plugged in and a long range antenna. if you have any question feel free to drop me a line at RDL_Jamaican@hotmail.com or leave me a message on my clan site jamaican-clan.tk
PS the clan site is slightly damaged right now but will be repaired soon.

Just an FYI PSP was designed to run AT 333 Mhz but was under-clocked to 222 Mhz to conserve battery life.Sony(Although they are idiots) would not be stupid enough to not test how hot it got before shipping.I'll admit it may be a little too hot for comfort but I've had mine at 333Mhz since it was possible to change it and have had no issues.

This is indeed all utterly pointless, the PSP will run at 333mhz all day long without issues, apart from shorter battery life.

if your so worried about heat how about taking the readings you got and look up the specs on the chip and see if it falls within acceptable operationg range. if so you waisted a lot of time. if not then you waisted time and a good psp on a mod that won't do much better then stock. if you realy want to enhance the cooling use copper and all you need is a strip running under the left thumb board. a thermal spreader will give better results then what you did.

You mean you won't have to remove the UMD drive to have an ugly heatsink sticking out of it that will probably do nothing?

Well, on a side note, this answers my question I was going to ask about overclocking a PSP. I had a feeling one could, but wasnt sure if it was already at a recommended max anyways. Have to look this up and see how to do it and if it is worth it.

Is it worth it?
