I will make this as short as possible:
My UMD drive died --> I hacked my PSP to load ISO's instead
Now, I have removed said UMD drive --> I want to replace it with internal memory
I was thinking compact flash card reader or USB jump Drive, I would even be willing to go with HDD.
What I need: Schematics/Diagrams/Hardware profiles/Drivers/Insights or just a shove in the right direction.
Who is up to the challenge? |

can't use the UMD drive connection as a meens for added memory, it uses a propiatory system. can't use any sort of hard drive
Only real option for expanding the storage is with one of the photoflash devices, eather the CR-3100 or the CR-5400

Firstly I mean to mount where the UMD used to be not connect through its controller. secondly I know that datel had a 4gb hard drive that connected through the Pro Duo slot. Thirdly, I had a thought regarding using the USB port and some sort of small usb hub (stripped of course) and some drivers i found. I am currently exploring this. |

the datel used a CF Micro drive and it's chipset was painfuly slow
curious to see the drivers you found, can you toss up a link for them?

No I cannot link to these drivers because I closed the tab and cannot find it again, But I did find an alternative called the WITCHAIN SPS. this is a hard drive enclosure made by a Chinese company that will directly interface with the PSP via USB and allow for a gigantic amount of storage. Not quite as elegant as my internal idea but in this case function wins over form.
Also it appears i am not allowed to post URL's because I just registered with this site earlier today and cannot post URL's until I have 15 posts
P.S. I think I have the drivers downloaded if I recall correctly it is USBHOSTFS?
I could be wrong but i believe I downloaded them.

First off I would like to start by saying i am sorry for looking like a massive douchebag.
This forum gave me the message "The administartor has restricted you access to private messages because you have less than 5 posts."
I was right it is the USBHOSTFS file that allows this.
I HAVE lost the thread that I got this from.
I have the driver and can send you a link.
it requires IRshell from what I understand. |

I am considering other alternatives though because my main goal is this: To have a source of storage that I can use on the fly with my PSP that will not be obsolete tomorrow. I do not trust Sony, UMD is already a dead technology and I fear the same will br true for Memory Stick Pro Duo's. I have found a hard drive enclosure that will speak directly to a psp without any modification, and 1T of storage is sexy.
I have been wrong though I do not think USBHOSTFS will do what I want, but I was drinking last night and I do not know if I can find the driver again but I will try.

I looked up that Witchain SPS you mentions TRJ and it looks good, found a video of it on youtube shoing it loading off the HDD and the PSP running it
He did use usbhost to do that like you would from a PC
and the specs i found on the Witchain SPS do say it can be eather a USB device or a USB host.
nice find. now if i can only figure out how to buy it lol.

I am trying to buy one from Taobao.com, wich is like china's Ebay. I found companies that buy things from Taobao for comsumers in other contries, Like the USA, and I have contacted one for details. The thing I like best about the witchain is that it is not limited to the PSP, and I could use somewhere else if the PSP ever falls to the ways side or if I just neede to move some very large files. This is admittedly not as cool as having an internal HDD on my PSP but it is more practical. |

the witchain is a bit large to tote around with an already chunky PSP in my opinion. i also read the battery life on it is around 3 hours, don't know how viable that would be either. just some cons i was looking at. |

you know...I was just thinking. The hard drives for the ipods and the zunes are quite small, and they can be 30, 80, 120 GB.(I think those are the numbers anyway) Is there such a thing as a hard drive enclosure for those? If so I think that would be a perfect size for the UMD deck.
