Broken backlight.
Well, I was replacing my LCD because the LCD just cracked and my backlight was working 100% just fine. So I opened up the PSP, and as I was trying to pop open the black clip that holds the backlight into place the black clip falls off. Anyways, the LCD works just fine. I shined it into some light and I noticed that it was working. The backlight on the otherhand won't turn on. (Yeah, I tried over 8 different backlights)
I tried everything to "hold" the backlight into place, electircal tape, styrofoam, and a lot of other things.
My guess is the total backlight attachment area is messed up somehow. (This isnt the first time it happened)
Any other suggestions? I checked ebay for a new motherboard. (Couldn't find any for a reasonable price)
Can't return it, I voided the warranty, and the warranty wouldn't cover the LCD issue anyways. |

Hey there. I've actually ran into this problem recently.
Get back in there. Just in case you aren't 100% sure where the connections are, i'm just gonna run through it real quick.
1. Remove the LCD.
2. Underneath it, metal casing. Remove it. You may need to unscrew 2 tiny screws. Remove all connections.
3. You were probably here already..There will be one connection like [| | |] and another rectangle shaped connection like [|||||||||||||||||| ||||||||||||||||]. The wider one is the actual data it sends to the screen "the drawing" and the smaller one with the thin wire ie actually the backlighting.
6. Plug in the thin wire to the [ | | | ] slot. Turn on the PSP. Look on the side of the LCD on the wide side. Do you see white lights? You gotta look here, even if they are lit, the screen will still be black without a signal. Which is the wider one.
7. With the power on (i know, but it's hard to rule it out without doing it this way..what's there to lose, your screen? LOL) Fidget with the wide cord. Grab it by the middle, pull it up and down, push it forward, pull it back, anything. Until you see the screen do ANYTHING.
Error correct from there, then glue into place when you know.
you probably already did that. But I was there. Yesterday. All day. the firmware would freeze up, causing the PSP to shut off. Loose connection somewhere..I took it apart 50 billion times. Then, the wide connection pin broke off. Causing the LCD problem. So now the PSP works, but no screen LOLOL.

I'm really sorry that happened, dude. I spent hours trying to fix my friend's firmware, and I finally got the hardware going. Then, the LCD screen pin snapped and the door also broke off. Now it's useless because of the LCD.

Hmmm, I'm still trying to figure out a solution without having me waste my $ on more psp parts lol. I got my LCD off ebay and it works fine.
Well, I tried the check that someone provided earlier, it's a no go. If only I can like make my own backlight lol or have a battery powered backlight. |
