How to Open & Basic Repair Guide For The PSP

1. How to open your PSP

Tools needed:

One small size Phillips Screwdriver, if you dont know what that is you should probably not try to open your PSP, ok its something that look like this X

On picture 1 you will see the 5 screws that need to be removed to open the PSP, marked with red arrows. If you are not going to remove the whole inside of the PSP then dont bother to remove the 2 screws marked with green arrows. There is also no need to remove the whole label inside the battery compartment. I just did it for this picture.



2. How to remove the LCD screen

Its quite easy to remove the LCD screen, just use a small flat screwdriver and put in the side like you see in the picture and pry it open. Now dont slip, you dont want to put a big scratch in the LCD screen.



Now it will look like this, and you will see the screen is attached with 2 orange flat cables. Always be extra careful when opening this type of clips, they can very easily be damaged.

3. How to fix stuck L/R buttons

This is how it looks like when you have the stuck button problem, its not very common, but I have seen it a few times. Fortunately its easy to fix. It should be noted that Sony have fixed this issue as far as I know on new productions, so new comers shouldnt be worried about this.



Before you start doing this, check what part of the plastic that actually get stuck and then just use a nail file to remove some of the plastic, put it back, test again if it still get stuck. If it does then file down some more, but be careful not to remove to much or you will end up with a lose button instead.

you have any on how to fix loose x, o, triangle, and square buttons?

because my square button keeps getting stuck

yup mine does to.

you'll need a water soluble cleaner that will stick to the button,use a quitip to dab(note i said dab)a small,a very small amount around the button,then just start pressing the butto na couple of times and then bam,it'll be unstuck

That means you broke the tiny little black piece that protrudes from the action button pad. I did that on my first PSP, and man was it a pain in the ass to have to turn it on using a needle all the time.

Do i have to take off the black sticker that is in the battery compartment that tells the sony people that you opened your psp to just get the cover off of the lcd screen. (shown in the second picture)

yes and that will void your warrenty.

i think that means sony wont have any thing to do w/ u and ur psp but any ways to my ?

ummmm i got mad at somone trying to take my psp and punched at them accadentally hiting the hand that caressed the psp so verry gentily (as it should be handled) thus knoking it to the floor (tile) as the psp exploded in its usual pices (the memmory card, battery and battery cover) i screemed and killed the kid responsible. after this verry stressfull event i was meandering along and decided that i would like to indulge in a tymphony of button clicking and gun fire that is syphon philter:dark mirror when i realized WOW! my psp's not loading the disk that is syphon philter:dark mirror. sending me into an other downfall of blind rage and confusion

my ? is can i fix it, how, what parts do i have to buy and ware can i get them (preferrably not on ebay)

you waht i find weird i have dropped my psp on my drive way and im 5'11 when i was trying to find out if my speakers were broken, and my psp is fine no messed up pixels just the face plate has a tiny crack where the screw is on the bottom side. why am i so lucky?

All you got to do is to take out those couple of screws to change ur face plate? did know it was that easy.

ok on my psp the umd tray broke and i was wonderink if there was a place i could buy a new one for cheap in canada perferably
