Okay, I stole my brother's psp today(He's 9 and has never used it) and got all the neccesities(ie 2gb memory stick, USB.)

Basically the things I want to do are:
    • Watch movies
    • Listen to music
    • Play roms of various types.
    • And play actual games.

Thing is though, I have no clue how to do any of this. I've heard also that if you **** up, you brick it, and that's no good... >_>

So can someone link me to a tutorial of all basic psp knowhow?

1 more thing though, I've seen that you can only use homebrew(I'm guessing this is how you play roms) on certain firmwares. Though I've only bought 2 games (Valhalla Knights and SOCOM FTB1, I'm afraid Valhallah Knights 3.something firmware req might screw me over. Is this true?

    Thanks.

Firmware is indeed key to modding your psp. You can only mod your psp if its at or below 3.03. Basically you'll downgrade from 3.03 (or lower) to 1.50 and then install custom firmware such as 3.40oe-a which will allow you to play homebrew and the newer games. Check your firmware and then start from there. I recommend the Ultimate downgrader sticky as a good starting point. Also, use the search feature on this forum as it will lead you to all kinds of good info.

Wow, then you are pretty much ready to mod. The goal for modding is always to get to 1.50 and then go from there, so since your there already you are close to being able to mod it as is. In fact, you can run emulators directly from a 1.50. All you need to do is download the emulator you want from www.psp-hacks.com or www.pspbrew.com or www.qj.psp.com and copy both folders of the emulator (all 1.50 homebrew comes in two folders, one with % after the name and one with just the name) to the memory stick under MS:PSP>GAME and then copy your roms to the emulator folder without the %. Fire up the psp and select the game icon and you are done.

If you want the new features, like the web browser, or want to play games that require you to update firmware, then you should look into custom firmware. Look for the easy installer for 3.40oe-a and you should have custom firmware installed in no time. You can also rip your own playstation one games and play them on custom firmware.

Good luck, and let us know if you have specific questions.
