Default Hi Mod's

Hi there. I just got a psp with a 2.81 firmware.
I would ,like to "get the most out of it", and so have been looking around. Following advise from sticky I have a large memory stick coming. Im not sure what step to take from here though, and being so new I dont want to brick it . Idealy it would be great to find a mentor that can guide me through, though amny help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks very much.
Morph.

Welcome to the forums.

Your first step should be to downgrade to 1.5, and them upgrade to 3.40 OE-A.

You can't downgrade from 2.8 to 5.1 b/c, firmware 5.1 doesn't exist yet, and if it did, it would be upgrading. Haha, j/k man.

To downgrade to 1.5, you need to upgrade to 3.03 official, and then downgrade with Grand Theft Auto:Liberty City Stories. It needs to be an unpatched game though.
To get info, just search. Theres the ultimate downgrader thread by julie, or the one by the_beginner.
The benefit of running 3.40 OE-A (not 3.40 official, don't get mixed up) is that you can do everything that official 3.40 firmware can, plus play backed up PSP games, emulate PSX, and almost any system you can think of, run homebrew, and customize the look of your PSP, and more...

Edit: please edit your post, and delete the double post before someone sees it. No double posting here.

Right thanks will get cracking finding and follwing one of the 2 threads, weird you have to use liberty city, I guess unpatched means off the shelf. Ok cool, good to have a bit of a sequential path to follow, I really appreciatr it man.

Chears,
Morph.

Did you read the last part? Please edit, and delete your double post dude.

And unpatched means that, it has a security flaw that isn't taken care of, or "patched" to be fixed. That is what allows the use of the downgrader... or more specifically the HEN.

One in the store will be patched... 100%

From the box

And, from the UMD it needs to have system update 2.00. Not anything higher. Any firmware update it has that is more recent that 2.00 is patched. This is the best way (and only way if you bought it used) of telling if your gta:lcs is unpatched or not.

About the double post, see how there's two posts in a row from you, where no one else has posted? That's called double posting. Do not do it, it will get you banned.
You're going to need to click the little "Edit Post" to...edit your post. Then you can copy what you said in one post, and delete that post, then edit the other post, and paste in what you said on the one post, to the other, then click "Save" to save the post.
After that, you've effectively edited and deleted a double post... Man, I should post this as a tutorial.

Default Hi Mod's

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your modding. Another thing you will want to find out before downgrading, is which mother board model you have. Guess what? If you guessed theres a sticky about that too, you just guessed right. Its in the hardware section, and its titled "How to determine you motherboard model" or something close to that. You just need to know if you have a TA-082 or not.

Good luck and let us know if you need more help.

The 3.03 downgrader automatically patches it though doesn't it? So he doesn't need to worry.

You are correct Pirate. The motherboard does not matter for 3.03, only for the 2.71 downgrader. Still, probably a good idea to know what motherboard you have
