Hey, Newbie Alert...

Hey all, I am new here, this is my first post. My name is Steve and I live in Melbourne Australia. I am old enough to know better than to be into gaming but I still love it...

I just got my PSP today with the stock firmware 3.80 and am having trouble installing emulators and such (MAME). Is there a newbie guide to file structures and such on the PSP that I can use to get my head around things?

Basically if I try to install folders to the GAME directory they come up as corrupted... or the can not start game error with a series of numbers.

Any help appreciated! Or point me to a thread if one exists which I am sure it does. I have searched but no luck yet!

I have tried to use search on this site but the image verification is not appearing thus I can not use it... So please accept apologies for the basic questions - I just wanna get the most out of my new PSP.

You can't use any of that on Official Sony Firmware, you need to install Cutom Firmware to even begin.

It is great to see another Aussie around!! I live in sydney.. aren't we all either old enough or smart enough to know that gaming is no good. but we still do it hahaha..

I have had the PSP a week now and had it modded to CFW 4.10 m33-2

I have had good luck with RemoteJoy and running games from memory stick etc.

The only thing I havent been able to run is MAME emulator - the program is loaded but it crashes when I try to run actual ROMs in the main screen.

Odd!

But I had good luck with PSPectrum (showing my age) and am really enjoying the PSP. What an awesome device!

The roms need to be converted with clrmame - a seperate utility. The mame4all (PSP version) should come with a clrmame profile to load.
