Talking Just got an old PSP (2.81); suggestions welcome

Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums and to PSP hacking/homebrew in general. I tried my best to follow the scene back when the PSP came out up until a year ago since I thought I would always get a PSP. But school and work got in the way and I never did, until recently when a friend of mine gave me his old PSP-1001b (I think that's right) because it wouldn't turn on with the battery or with the power cord. He didn't use it anymore and just gave it to me for free along with 3 games. I bought a used power cord and tried it and the PSP works and its still version 2.81. The battery is at 0% and its been there for a long time so even though I'm charging it now, I doubt it will hold the charge.

So basically, since I am completely lost with all the new hacks and custom firmwares or whatnot, I'm asking if anyone can suggest what I should do to it in terms of hacks.

I have a PS3 (60 GB version) with an upgraded 250 GB HDD with tons of games so I would like to be able to take full advantage of the current connectivity features between the PS3 and the PSP. I don't play portable games much (although a great title would still interest me from time to time, like Metal Gear Portable Ops), but I'd like to use my PSP mainly for media purposes when on the road. Movies (I already have DVD Fab Platinum to convert video for the PSP), music, and web browsing. I used the PSP browser on a 4.00 PSP and it ran out of memory just loading tigerdirect.ca, so if there are any homebrew web browser I'd definitely like to try them.

Like I said, any suggestions are welcome as I'd want to have a good idea of what I should do before upgrading to a wrong firmware and having no way back.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Don't upgrade your firmware.

And from what it sounds like to me, you don't even need to hack your psp other then for the hell of it.

And I don't think there is a homebrew web browser

So what you're saying is that my PSP is at its full potential at stock 2.81 firmware? I find that hard to believe. And when I mean hack, I mean software mods for homebrew, iso loaders, extra functionality, ...

Sure you can hack it.

But if your just using it for media, then there's no point.

And where your at, you can get downgraders, and downgrade to 1.50, and upgrade to 4.01m33 by going through steps.

But still...

But lets say I want to use emulators and loaders and whatnot.

Should I downgrade to 1.50 and slowly make my way up to 4.01m33 (or whatever version would allow me to use the most emulators like popsloader) or should I use the Pandora Battery mod instead? I've been trying to read up on this stuff as much as possible but I feel left behind hehe.

If you want to make/buy a pandora battery and save time, then use that method.

If you don't mind going through a bit of messing around, downgrade.
