....and I've decided to hack my PSP. This is the third time I've owned a PSP (bought one in 05 and again in 07. Ended up selling them both due to lack of games).

When I owned it before, there was a risk of bricking the system and that was the main reason I stayed away. Now all I have to do is buy a pandora, make a mms and install cfw. The PSP is a great system that is, unfortunately, not living to it's full potential.

Just some relatively noobish questions though. What's the best custom firmware to install? Or is it just a matter of opinion?

What about notable homebrew? Anything that stands out above the rest?

You dont need a pandora and mms if you have firmware 5.03 or lower. Just update to 5.03 and use ChickHen exploit to downgrade to custom firmware.

The best custom firmware really is the newest one. Some people prefer older versions though.

Ultimate PSPTube - stream videos on your psp.
CXMB - custom xmb = FULLY custom themes.

If theres anything I missed.. other members will add :P

True, but I've done some research and 1) I'm running 5.50 at the moment and 2) A pandora is nice to have in case my PSP gets bricked at some point.

Ooooh. Thanks for that thread. It's full of useful software. Emulators are a given, considering how many classics I have. A file manager seems to be a no brainer as well. Plenty of times I've wanted to look a files on my PSP (namely the common folder) and got annoyed by how much of a hassle it was. (Would it kill sony to let you read text files?)
