    Hi,

I am very new to this scene. My nephew just dropped his fairly new PSP while trying to perform an OS upgrade in order to play a game called "2K Sports The Bigs 2"

Now the PSP has no display at all. I believe the process offered instructions to not power off the device while performing the OS upgrade but the young lad dropped his PSP on the carpet and the battery popped out.

    What should we do?

Thanks in advance and I apologize if I posted this in the wrong location.

    It's bricked.
What type of PSP is it? 1000, 2000, or 3000?

It says 3001 on the bar code on the bottom.

    What exactly does bricked mean?

    Is it finished forever?

Can I send it in for repair?

Can I reset the device somehow?

    Thanks in advance.

Bricked is when the internal flash of a system is corrupt.
    No.
    Yes, only to Sony.
No, PSP 3000's can't be used with a pandora battery which is used to unbrick the PSP 1000s and early 2000s.

Is a PSP 1000 or early 2000 better than the 3000 series PSP?

    Thanks again.

    Let me explain better.

1000 is much more durable and is not produced directly from Sony anymore, therefor you must search ebay, craigslist, etc. All of these models can always be modded to play .iso files, and even play old classic games...
2000 I believe is also done production, now there are several types the oldest ones are almost exactly as thick as the 1000 model, only silver, there is also the litest 2000 model, which is black. It also has the ability to use skype and mics(sold separately)
3000 this is the main psp model to date, it right now is the litest, and includes a built-in mic (some games use mics and you can also use it for skype) this model is unhackable, but has a slight "hack" that requires a special type of firmware no longer being sold with the psp 3k(I think). It cannot be unbricked(your issue right now) so when this issue occurs, you must call sony and send it in for a firmware flash again(reinstalling the firmware)
PSPGO this model is said to be hacked, it's right now a sort of t-mobile side kick sort of model. It can be hacked, but only right now through exploits, since this is download only exploits could easily be patched by Sony.

Brick is when a system has corrupt firmware files (so while you were installing your firmware you removed it, therefor the files were not fully put into the system, the system looks for these files at startup, if it doesn't find them it just shows a black screen.)

Some sort of info you didn't need but I guess if you want to hack your system you would want/need it...
    i am an idiot.
