The PSP has two ways of using wifi: AdHoc and Infrastructure.

AdHoc: used to connect to other PSPs in the same building as you directly. Used for head-to-head action of people in the same location. No router needed.

Infrastructure: used to connect to a wireless router to get internet access. Used for internet browsing, and online gaming. Connects to to gamers across the world. Wireless router with broadband internet connection required.

An Infrastructure network can be supplied by either:

    • a broadband modem/wireless router (in the one unit) that has an internet connection
    • a broadband modem with a separate wireless router networked to it
    • or a switched on computer with some form of internet connection and a WIFI PCI card(internal) or a WIFI USB stick (is that what a WIFI max is?).

Once you have any of these and have it set up correctly, you can then set up your PSP for that WIFI network and it will provide the connection for network gaming (for games that support infrastructure), the internet connection for the PSP's web browser and any other online features the PSP has. By internet I assume you mean the web through the PSP's browser.

The Web and the internet are not the same thing. The internet is the connection of all the computers, the world wide web is one use for that connection. Network gaming, instant messaging, file sharing, V.O.I.P. etc are all others.

Yes, a computer can act as a wireless router, and a wireless router may or may not connect DIRECTLY to the internet, instead connecting to a broadband modem (which is actually how mine is setup). I was simply trying to keep it simple, not all-inclusive.

And yes, there is a difference between the www and the internet in general. But I did point out the two main uses being browsing (www) and gaming (not www). There are a couple messaging apps for the PSP, but that probably isn't big considering how hard it is to use the onscreen keyboard of the PSP for "typing". Again, I was just covering the main uses to keep it simply. We could go on at length about every use you could possibly make, but I'd rather not.
