In the (k)console, type It SHOULD start compiz-fusion if you installed everything correctly. |

yea, everything installed correctly just it screwed up i guess because of a bug and i had to shut down by pressing the button and i started up and it was gone. so i thought that it didnt save so i re-did everything it installed and a i was using it like doing fire paint and so i wanted to save it on my computer so i restarted manually and it was gone again. i just re-re-did it again and im using it fine.

If using KDE it should save the session automatically when you log out, so Compiz-Fusion should autostart.
If using Gnome, go to System > Preferences (I think) > Sessions and add the following startup command:
compiz -c emerald &
That will automatically run Compiz-Fusion on startup with Emerald as the decorator (the preferred choice.)

Okay. Sounds like Metacity doesn't want to give up it's place as window manager.
Go back into Sessions and change the command to do this:
compiz --replace
Then log out and back in. After it's running open a terminal and run this:
emerald --replace
Those two commands will set Compiz to be the default window manager and Emerald to be the default window decorator. Good luck.

yea Ive been using Compiz-fusion for a while now and its just excellent. also Darked i dont know if there is a thread for it but for linux gamers that dont know they should check out cedega or wine. I use both but mostly cedega lately and it runs guild wars and half life almost flawlessly. I havnt switched back to my vista partition yet in almost three weeks since i got cedega. Im working on getting vent working properly since they dont use teamspeak
Remember folks linux is free (as in beer) and you can do with it as you please. That means basically if you screw up something and have to reinstall 100 plus times lol (like me). You dont have to call microsoft to ask for verification on something you own. I live in Ubuntu forums lol
GL to all

I guess I could write one but I honestly don't use Wine/Cedega that much. I only use it for Diablo 2 and GTA San Andreas. Everything else I play (UT, UT2004, etc) pretty much has native binaries.

well i wasnt necessarily implying that we need a thread I just didnt want to double post info that has already been discussed lol. But thats cool I use wine and cedega and for the windows users out there that are used to the install and it works thing might not want to try wine and cedega. Takes a little patience and a little more reading than normal lol. But I just thought I would throw it out there just in case people didnt know about other options.

Sometimes Wine / Cedega is the only choice, and most of the time it'll work really well.

i installed Compiz-fusion today, but when i ran "compiz --replace" it lost my window title bars. I heard this was quite common, so i played with a few settings and noodled around a bit. I had just installed a nVidia card and enabled the restricted drivers, so i thout restarting X couldnt hurt. Well, it did. I ctrl-alt-backspaced and logged back in, now i cant do anything. My cursor shows up, and my panel at the top shows up for about 1 second, then disappears. The wallpaper and desktop icons dont load. I cant get to the menu via alt+f1, cant get to the run command box by alt+f2. All i can do after that is reboot. I am running ubuntu 7.04 and installed compiz accoding to this guide: How To: Compiz Fusion on Ubuntu 7.04 - Ubuntu Forums |

compiz fusion is a combo of beryl and compiz. Before they were two completely different programs, but now they are rolled into one. Its supposedly better, but i havent noticed any major difference.
