Ubuntu hates me..

I burnt a copy of Ubuntu 7.04 and I tryed installing it on my PC, I got an xserver graphics error when trying to run off live disc (using my nVidia geforce fx 5200) so since that card was outdated anyway I bought a new one (ati radeon x1300) but I still get the same problem..

I've tryed the text-based installer before, it didn't work, don't remember why though..

Any help?

linux in general has crappy support for ati cards, so the only thing you could try is go for a newer nvidia, or wait for someone who knows more to answer you

Your FX5200 should work fine, it's what I use. Do NOT use an ATi card. Period. The driver support is really crappy for Linux. Stick with nVidia.

I'd also try reburning the disc, use 4x speed, or the slowest available. Linux iso's are iffy when it comes to burning them. Sounds to me like you've got a bad disc.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, but no one responded for awhile :P

You have the fx5200?

Anyway, the FX5200 doesn't work, I've ordered the CD's, burnt the cd's myself, and used a cd my friend used to install his, and it worked fine for him, but not for me...

And the Ubuntu forums didn't help, no one helped me with the FX5200, and with the ATI, someone said they only got it to work on PClinuxOS.
