WD Drive works with one mac, but not another? huh?

So i have a 160GB WD passport. I used it on my imac G5 to put all my game files on, then i took it and hooked it into my G3, and i can hear it start to spin, then stop, then start again, then stop but never shows up on my comp. I've gone through everything to no luck.

Any chance it is cause my G3 is outta date? It says on WD website only requirements are usb drive, and os x 10.1.4+

i meet both those with the G3. G3 has 1.0 USB, and G5 has 2.0 USB. That the cause maybe?

any help appreciated.

Maybe the G3 is not delivering enough power via its USB port? If you're connecting the Passport to the G3 via USB hub, or a port on the keyboard or something, try connecting it directly. That's the only thing I can think of.

i wondered that, and only just found, that they sell a special cord for laptop users that uses two usb ports. Ima see about getting one later.

It acted like it had physical damage, which threw me.

there is a voltage difference between usb 1.0 and 2.0, and that is the problem. You need to upgrade your g3 with a 2.0 pci card or get a firewire 40 drive to use on it.
