have lower technical specs than pc's
    yet work better?
I mean I know the os is miles better
but I mean shouldn't they be slower becuase they generally have lower specs than pc's (I'm meaning the lower end ones here not the high end dual core macbooks like my friends got)?

    My current pc setup is:
    1gb corsair gaming ram
3.2ghz intel celeron processor (piece of s*** in 2 months im going 3.4 dual core pentium D just need my bday money)
radeon X300 graphics card (I need a new psu to use the X800 XL i bought, becuase I need a pci express power lead from my psu)
    and 200gb HD
reckon this could run the latest mac os?
    I'm seriosly considering it

why? because a windows operating system has alot more running in the background. mac OS's are streamlined more, so they use less power, therefore need lower pc specs to run effectivly. XP has so much garbage running in the background that you almost need twice as much power to make the pc fast enough to be useable. to the best of my knowledge (im still a mac newbie) a mac OS runs what you see. if nothing is running, then the comp is doing nothing.. unlike a PC where lots of things are running even when its idle.

it aslo affects preformance when a PC has to run firewall and antivirus programs... macs dont need these so thats more CPU cycles devoted to user programs instead of protecting you from the outside world

A lot of it is due to the fact that Apple knows exactly what hardware their software is going to be used on....and have the opportunity to make optimizations for that hardware.

    sounds ace
so what do I need to run mac os?
I mean would my setup be able to run it?
because I hear that intel processors can run it?
I'd also like a dead cheap macbook
    like Ã ¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£50/$100
anyone got a crappy old one?
know I'm asking nigh on impossible here
    haha
mind you I did get my first laptop for Ã ¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£25/$50

you won't be able to do it without jumping through a load of hoops but it's possible to on intel hardware.

    also, a macbook for Ã ¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£50 ? no chance.
    i got a 4 year old 12" powerbook for 3 times that

i was kinda hinting at that. windows has to deal with thousands of hardware configs and its hard to be both fast and compadible with everyones parts. since macs stuff is limited, in terms of hardware choices, not preformance, apple has a better idea how to code their software to work with it better

Oh I re-read this. El Oh El why would you dish out for an X800 XL & Dual core for a mac? Lol much?

You don't get many choices...but they're all AWESOME choices...so why not. I don't consider myself to be a fanboy of OSX or Windows, but I did get a Macbook Pro due to the superior hardware....Also a good reason to go with a mac

I bought the X800 Xl to be able to play all the games I want to in decent quality
as the card I have now is shit
I didnt buy it just to run my pc into some kind of mac hybrid
oh and I have to get a pentium D as that's the highest my mobo will support
I really need to have a look @ new mobo's though cause I know AMD is alot better than Intel proccesorwise
and I've decided that when I can get a job (30th june cause it's when I officially leave compulsary education) I'm getting a macbook for college

Sounds good any prices been released yet?
    check this out:
    http://www.windowsdevcenter.com/pub/...18/PearPC.html
    looks quite good
might do it tell you all how it works
    also
if mac os is open source (ie people can review the code freely) as i think it is
    and that makes it better
    why don't ms do this?
seeing sa their copying everything else from apple anyway...
and why don't macs get viruses?
if people can view the code can't they easily find exploits?
    hmm
    so many questions
