its 80 dollars off the retail for a 1.83, and they give you parallels for 10 bucks. Not a bad deal. The best thing you could do for this iMac is boost the ram. 512 just does not cut it anymore unless you only want to browse the net. The 17' screen is pretty small, but you can get the mini dvi to dvi/VGA converter and have a dual monitor setup on this iMac. It is about $25 suggested retail.

I agree. 512MB RAM doesn't cut it anymore. It comes with parallels, but if you ever decide to use bootcamp.....I recommend 1GB minimum for any Windows OS. Screen real estate is a valuable thing, and for a desktop computer...you may start to feel like 17" is too small. The Dual monitor setup is definitely a possible solution to that.

$599 mac mini + about $120 to max the ram at 2gb. It takes a pc2-5300 sodimm and can even accept most forms of pc memory. Use you existing monitor and drop about $150 on the apple blue tooth keyboard and mouse set and you are good to go. By the way the iMac takes the same format of memory as the mac mini and maxis out at 3gb. It is good to see a hater become a switcher.

    I want a Core 2 Duo. I only have a core duo.
But that is a good Mac. Hit the RAM to a GIG and you're good to go.

Yes if you get the memory from Memory upgrades, graphics cards, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com and install it yourself it will be about in that ballpark.

Welcome to the mac side of things. things just work better over here.

I would add a firewire external hard drive to the mini too, they don't have enough storage. I have the 20" iMac BTW and love it. It runs great with 1 gig of ram. I've been doing a lot of video editing and photo touchups, nothing seems to slow it down.

mac mini is great (all apple products usually are) and it should leave enough budget room for a monitor, keyboard, and mouse if you dont already have one.
