Unfortinatly the G3 i have only has a 20 gig HDD. I would like something atleast above 100 Gigs

anyone know if this is possable with the iBook G3? Any recommendation on brands?

EDIT: I would like to make clear i would like to replace the HDD with a 100+ Gig hard drive, and am unsure if there are any that size that will fit, etc. Thanks

Any ATA laptop hard drive will work. I really don't have recommendation on brand. But whatever brand you go with, get something that is faster than 4200rpm. That way you will get a slight performance increase.

I replaced my wife's g3 ibooks with a 60 gig that was salvaged from a older windows laptop. When you go to re-install os-x you will have to run the Disk Utility to initialize the new drive.

The only problem is getting to it. There is a crap load of screws of various sizes that you will need to keep track of. Check out Powerbookmedic.com for a guide on how to do this. It is not for the faint of heart.
PSP un-bricking and CFW install in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. PM me for details

thanks, i just wasn't sure because it is such a cramped laptop if regular hard drives per say would fit ok.

Yeah i have had apples for awhile and know they make it hard as hell to get into any of their products. I just needed a laptop for school, nothing fancy. Got a perfect condition iBook G3 for $250 which i'd call a steal. But like i said the HDD was kinda small. (My iMac 24 inch has a 500 Gig HDD haha.) I just figured i'd go ahead and expand the HDD now, so i can keep my music on it too, and then if i sell it etc. i assume it'll be worth more as like you said, its very hard to do much hardware change on a mac.

I might look into trying this once i have 3-4 days off from school and can take my time.

I think i myself might go with a 7500 RPM 350 gig western digital HDD then, cause i have an external 500 Gig somewhere by them i really like.

Yet agian, thank you very much.

umm as far as I know the biggest 2.5" IDE drive you can get is a 250GB, and it will be a 5400RPM. I work on iBooks a lot, be careful of the dreaded GPU dilemma.

yeah after posting what i did i saw that...lol

but noone else said anything so i was to lazy to correct it. A 250 Gb hdd would be more than enough for me though, so thats fine by me.

you wouldn't happen to know though, if there is much difference between a 7,500 RPM HDD and a 10,000 RPM HDD?

WD has one called the raptor, 150 gb and 10,000 rpm, not for laptops tho. I had just never seen one with RPM that high, and its the only one best uy sells with that kind of RPM

What dilemma is that? My wifes backlight keeps going out when she moves the screen. I figured it's that cable that they had the replace warranty on for the longest time.
