Recommended bitrate?

What's the recommended bitrate for best sound quality?
I normally rip/download at 128 but does anyone know why some songs play with less volume?

I think 128 should be a good enough sound quality without taking up too much space. You can always go a bit lower if you'd rather have more songs, but it will make a marginal difference. I'm not sure about it, I doubt they'd be mixed at a lower volume.. but it could always happen.

I read somewhere in a magazine that when people make adverts that they want to stand out on TV, they compress it in a special way to appear to increase the volume, but for some reason, the dB don't go up. They just probably mix higher on the treble and mids. I dunno. :]

Well... I'm gonna have to settle with 4 songs @ 128.
At least until I buy the 1G stick. =\

Heh. Can't you just compress them. If you google, you should be able to find a program does that. I think you can go down to about 90-100 without that noticeable a difference.

Haha, no sorry, I mean bitrate, sorry for getting your hopes up. You should be able to fit 7-8 songs if you compress them. But it's probably better to get a much bigger memory card. They don't cost that much, I got my 512mb for about £45.
