Why do ppl buy UMD movies?

I really don't get it. Maybe I'm out of line here but I think it's stupid to buy a UMD movie. Plus, how is there a market for it? Is there special features on them not on DVDs? Why limit yourself to a tiny screen even if it is portable. I don't get the appeal at all.

Logically, let me try and figure this out. Imagine all the peeps in the world who own PSP, how many of them hate Sony's firmware and want to mod the hell out of it. Am I wrong to assume at least half? I'm guessing those half are gamers and the remaining half are not hardcore gamers but some are still. So they bought the PSP for game playing. Me, I didn't buy it for game playing. There aren't that many games I want to play. Of the half of the PSP owners who aren't gamers, they use it for other things. Some people video (or movie) watching, some don't. Maybe half of those guys? So 1/4 of all the PSP owners would likely buy a UMD movie. How many people are really willing to shell out the $20 for a movie. The selection is expanding but still limited. So ok, how many people don't mind shelling out the $20, don't use p2p, don't dislike sony's overprice-"ness" such as the Sony Memory Stick Pro, and want a movie THIS badly.

I'm one of them but I'm probably going to buy just 1 movie (FF AC) and keep it shrink wrapped for collection sake. If anyone actually read all my random blah blah blah-ing, thanx

got ff spirts within, appleseed, and thinkin of gettin Avent children too,

well i got them cause they were cheap too, if i had a choice between the dvd and umd, and they were the same price.... i would go for the DVD

Idiots Going On Road Trips, I Mean We All Get Tired Of Playing The Same Games, And I Bought The Punisher, Cuz I Love That Movie, But Why Nbot Spend 20 More And Get A Game, I Mean If Its Ur Fav Movie Why Not, But They Are More Expensive Than Reg Dvds, And Have No Special Features Or Deleated Scenes

I got 3 UMDs today for $15 from a friend so when I can get UMDs that cheap I'll get them

.....other than that I'll just rip it from my DVD collection.

i dont know, people just like the fact that they can watch full length movies on their psp, its sort of a fad right now, but i dont buy them , i buy games

I don't buy the movies, I rent them from Gamefly. I'm a musician and I travel a lot, so having some flix to watch on a plane or bus is pretty cool. When I don't wanna watch a flick, I pop in a game or listen to some tunes.

whats the dif. between UMD and DVD, what do they stand for, and can both be run on PSP?

A DVD plays on a DVD player tends to be the same length and width as a CD. A UMD is in a plastic case you put into a PSP. Can't be put into a DVD player because it's too small and the plastic case gets in the way. Even if you remove it, it's a different encoding so it won't run on a DVD player. Although, someone can try it and prove me wrong.
Basically a DVD plays on a DVD player and a UMD movie plays on a PSP. UMD can be games too but my thread is about UMD movies and how they are being sold and companies not losing money on them.

its just a so typical japanese thing.. the guy had some very short segments of time on a japanese channel kalled NHK, think he was like their icon or something. i love him too!

and i own one domo-kun too! yay!

EDIT: forgot, if peeps now are interested.. he is called domo (more precicly doumo) because thats all that he can say. doumo in japanese means "thanks". the -kun is used as a title mostly for girls and cute things, like -chan and such
