It works perfect on the PSP and the program to Converst and manages your music on the PSP its called SonicStage and its free.

Christ, best compression? What hole did you crawl out of? The only reason why ATRAC & ATRAC3 are still alive is because Sony's behind them. Notice that their mp3 players use only ATRAC encoding to play their music-one reason why Sony's MP3 Player division is nearly dead.

While generally, ATRAC3's music quality tends to be transparent (ie: nearly identical to source material) to most people, I wouldn't claim it has the best compression/lowest size. That's only if you're using ATRAC3Plus, which encodes at 64bit versus MP3's 128 bit.

Sony claims its the same, however, it's most likely biased in terms of the source material they used. (ie, only one genre, etc)

However, since only MP3 and ATRAC3/ATRAC are playable on the PSP, I would tell you to choose LAME encoding. It is generally considered to have the best compression algorithm for mp3s, and would make anything sound nice.

i'm talking about those with limited size mem sticks not every1 has the cash to go and buy a 1gb stick, i don't know about you but i'm just trying to offer some friendly advice to the PSP gaming community. Do You honestly think their MP3 player sales are down because of an alternative music format that they choose to use??? now the reason sales inthe Sony MP3 department are down is wouldn't be because of the huge amounts of competition would it??? no i didn't thinks so.

it would be apreciated that next time you post something instead of asking me "what hole did i crawl from" to just mabey say i think your wrong and just try out this compression or wateva

no, nox is right...ATRAC3 is only alive cause of sony....at least sony didn't force atrac3 down our throats by making it only compatable with atrac3.

Sony should have let up and allowed wma files to be played though...those are more bang for the byte.
