right now intel is the way to go. their dual cores are top of the food chain till amd fires back. it really depends on how deep your pockets are and what you want out of a pc. amd have always sold reliable, fast cpus for low prices and ive personally used them before

Unfortunately Julie is right. I'm an AMD fan myself and AMD will have something better then Intels in due time, but right now best bang for your buck is Intel Core dou. You could go with a AMD Server core tho and OC it with much success however. I'm planning on doing this....
Please could you stop the noise, I'm trying get some rest

    Im an AMD fan...

So no Intel for me... Id go all the way with AMD... +6000 is more than enough for whatever you want to do. So who cares about Dual core.

not to mention now that dual cores are out if i buy a +6000 it'll be cheaper. single processor comps seem to be dropping in price and that would fit my price rang a bit better. i can spend upwards of about $850 on a comp, not including the monitor and all that crap cuz i already have one. now i just gotta find a decent computer that has an amd +6000 to buy, or maybe custom build one? i dunno, not terribly computer savy, i just want one that can play all the upcoming games like bioshock, Starcraft II, Guild Wars II, and whatever else might catch my eye.

buy an AMD and with the money you would save by not buying Intel you can get a kick ass video card.
Alot of programs dont even take full advantage of dual core cpu's. That is changing at the moment, but any games that were out before the dual core processors were widely available wont notice much of a performance increase because they werent written to use the dual core to the max.

Get a PS3....lol, IBM just published a paper about a financial app on Cell, their end result was a Dual Cell blade beating a dual Xeon (Woodcrest, quad core) by 11X on single precision, 3X on double precision. But the Cell in the PS3 is only a Single Cell blade, and the Cell also has one redundant SPU and one locked for the OS. But single pricision is what matters meaning if you half the Dual Blade Cell you get around 5.5 sp still beating out the 2xQuadcore. Pretty Impressive...huh?

But between a Intel and Amd its up to you If you want a system that can crunch that raw data while your background scripts post data to an access database, Intel. If you're wanting to play games while running multiple apps like P2P or FRAPS in the background, AMD is the way to go.

    CPU Charts | Tom's Hardware

Check Tom's Hardware CPU Benchmark and you will see which is better, Intel Quad-Core is Really Good, but the problem is you Budget can you pay for it ?!

AMD DualCore 6000+ is equal with Intel E6700 but AMD 6000+ Price is ~100$ cheaper, also other parts for an AMD is more cheaper then Intel... a Quality mainboard for AMD is ~ 150$ but for intel it's 200$, i said quality not a ordinary Motherboard.. also you can install a 800Mhz RAM on your AMD but you can't do that with intel based system

All AMD Series all 64bit except Sempron, Sempron is Really Bullshit, never lose your money for it. if you have money Just for Sempron, go and buy Intel Celeron.
