Me being a RPG junkie have played a lot of RPGS, from the Valkyrie Profile on PSOne to Chrono Trigger on Snes to Final Fantasy 12 on PS2.

So I want your opinions to those who play the following games; Which rpg do you think was the best you have ever played Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII or some other rpg and name it.

I personally favor Chrono Trigger (Final Fantasy VII and Earthbound was close). I mean the plot was great the loved the active combat mode. I literally grew up playing this game and I am still playing it over and over again.

    So what's your opinion.

Xenogears, basically because of the anime cut scenes (however bad the sync was) and it's the first RPG I've ever played.
-> still can't figure out why

Best game of all time: Persona.

It is just that addicting and put together that good. The battles are a little slow now and then, but the fusion system is the best of the series. And it has such a darker atmosphere. Big thumbs up on the story.

A few more good ones are Ultima: Exodus for NES (probably the closest you can get to the feel of a PC RPG on a console), Morrowind, Final Fantasy IV, Parasite Eve, Final Fantasy IX, .hack, and Phantasy Star Online.

And then there is Eamon for Apple II...but that is probably a little too rare.

Man the RPG of the old days imo cannot be match by the ones made today (with the exception of Final Fantasy VII and maybe Chrono Cross). I still play Earthbound when I am bored and I actually have fun with it. And yeah Xenogears, Valkyrie Profile and Final Fantasy 4 was great. The only game i think i haven't play might be Persona.

Final Fantasy VII. It was the first rpg i really got into. The story was great and the gameplay kicks ass.

    PLAY PERSONA!!!!!

Heehee...it is slow, keep that in mind, but it is way good. Persona 3 just came out a month and 1/2 ago, and it might be a good place to start...but it has a lot of drawbacks.

Give it a couple months and you may be able to find a copy on e-bay for like $15-$20.

I agree, i remember buying a brand new psx, when they had just come out resized to be smaller, and barley having enough money for a game, so i bought FFVII used for 7 dollars as my friend said it was fun. Since it was my only game for awhile, and i was about 12, i found it fun and challenging, and i am the kind of person who gets really bored with RPG's.

I only started playing Chrono trigger recently, and i think because i didn't grow up with it, i don't hold as much respect for the game some people do. It is a fun game, but having played the game Golden Sun, which does have some similarities to Chrono Trigger here and there, Golden Sun to me is a much better rpg, and even then, it isn't half as good a game as FFVII.

Man is this thread making me feel old (reading about people getting into RPGs from FFVII).

I remember getting excited when I saw the preview for Ultima: Exodus in Nintendo Power. (BTW...that was the first RPG console game ever in the US, and I think it was the Oct 1987 issue....and I still rememer seeing it for the first time; I was 10)

Rofl. I am only 14 and I own 5 consoles, SNES, PS1, PS2, NES and PSP. And the first game I started with was Star Fox around the age of 5. And to tell you the truth I didn't start playing Chrono Trigger until recently. Oh another good rpg is Vagrant Story.

    FFVII easy.
Earthbound was pretty good too. I think it should have replaced FFVIII on the poll.
