    Alienwares are horrible and overrated.

    If you want a good one, check newegg.com or tigerdirect.com you can get a a decent one instead of spending $4k on a brand name.

    *sigh*
    I'm not going to try and change your opinion about getting a mac; who the hell am I to do so?

    Anyways, I'd go w/ HP. I remember reading up on this sick HP laptop(s) with this awesome design (engraved?) on the back of the screen case.
    Seriously, though, +1 to HP for putting a little jazz into the design and overall look of that particular laptop.
    Or, for that matter, that particular series of laptops.

    Hmm, what operating system do you want on it? If you still want XP, that might limit your choice of laptops, unless, you've got a spare license just laying around. I've got a Vista laptop (mostly for netsurfing and checking email) and the jump from XP to Vista isn't as straightforward as the one from 2000 to XP.

    Vista's different enough from XP which makes tinkering with it a bit of an inconvenience. If you're using a lot of legacy hardware and software, driver support and compatibility might be an issue.

    I guess that doesn't really give you an inkling on which specific model to buy but I just thought I'd approach your question from a different angle.
    -> still can't figure out why

    Black US - 1.50 -> 3.03 OE-A -> 3.40* LE v3
    White JP - 2.00 -> 1.50 -> 3.03 OE-A
    2 x Crisis Core JP - 3.60
    Black US - 1.50 -> 3.40* LE v3
    Black US - 3.03 -> 1.50 -> 3.40* LE v3 -> 3.52 M33-4 -> 3.71 M33-2 -> 3.71 M33-3
    Black US - 3.40 OE-A -> 3.40* LE v3
    Felicia Blue JP - 3.71 -> 3.71 M33-3

    I see the laptops for it and they're really cheap, around $800 or something. Crazy prices for the laptops they got.

    my mum just got a pretty nice HP laptop. Check out the sunday ads for CC, BB and Frys (friday ads for Frys)for some great prices on good laptops.

    If you are getting a Vista (which you pretty much have to) get 2 gigs of RAM, more if at all possible. a 2.0 ghz dual core processor is also a nice touch .
    Today has been the most beautiful day I've ever seen.
