Well im doing an essay in english on the Smoking ban, and id like to start a poll and get a few thoughts on the matter. Ill probably use some of these in my essay so if you dont want your post to be counted just say. (I wont use any names etc... though)

In Scotland a smoking ban has been in place from March 2006, and ENgland and wales started it in July 2007.

I dont know what the current situation is in The U.S. or other countries out there, so please tell me what the law is in your home country too.

I personally am for a smoking ban, some of my family smoke but i send them outside to smoke, i cant stand the smell of it. I think its a horrible habit.

So if i could get a few oppinions that'd be great, thanks

I quit smoking about 4 months ago and am totally for a ban. Everywhere you go there is cigarette smoke. When I was in line for black friday at Fry's I had smoke in my face non stop throughout the whole line. It really made me want to smoke...and it definitely stinks.

Isn't using ideas without giving credit (no names) plagiarism?

I don't really know what to argue for the UK. But, I'm totally against it in the U.S. It goes against the whole "laissez-faire" system of government, and it's interaction with business. The people who founded the American government set out to "let do" when it was created. Making sure that the government wouldn't be able to go in and control what is acceptable with business or how a business could run.
As well as how the federal system was founded to allow each person to live their lives independent from any one ruler, dictator, or in that time, specifically King. It was set up to allow people to live freely and how they would want (so long as it doesn't interfere with the just-law of God [no killing, rape, stealing...]), so banning someone's right to do something as simple as smoke a cigarette goes against the whole idea of "US Democracy". The idea of "freedom" in America is jeopardized when basic rights are withheld from it's people.

Not only that, but seeing as how the US was used for tobacco, and the reason why America is what it is today, was because of tobacco, banning it's use seems kind of oxymoronic, don't you think?
But...it's that kind of ass-backwards thinking that fuels today's America, so really it follows the same dumbass ideas as Slavery, The Patriot Act, and the unjustified wars we see so much of. Making banning smoking wholly, and truly American.

As for the pole. I'm not sure how to answer that.
On one hand: No, I'm against it as it goes against the constitution, what this country was founded upon, and basic "god-given" rights and freedoms.
But, on the other: It is up that specific person, as it should be their choice, not the government's.

Sorry Pirate i meant, "i wont give names if anyone doesnt want me to," I know that alot of economies may depend highly on tobacco products, the UK is one, thats why its a ban of Smoking in Public areas.

And The U.S. does pride itself in being "The Most Democratically Develloped Country" and therefore i think that if it introduced a smoking ban many people would feel pressured into giving something up that they enjoy.

It actually has had a good effect here in Scotland, we now have a "social" activity called "Smurting", a cross between smoking and flirting, where people are outside clubs/bars smoking and flirting, i suppose it does have its good and bad sides, so i look forward to hearing more opiinions, thanks

Im from the us, so my view may be slightly different than yours.
smoking should be treated like drinking alcohol in the us. Allowed in bars and your own home, but not out in public. I'd actually rather see someone drinking in public than smoking. I dont want to be breathing in someone else's smoke. Quite frankly thats disgusting.
So i guess i vote for a partial ban.
    Very funny....not.

A smoking ban in a smokers opinion is stupid.I do understand where people are coming from though...when I didn't smoke I probably felt them same way.

well i live in the US , Austin,TX to be exact.

last year you could smoke in bars, clubs, restaurants (Smoking Section), work and everything. im a smoker and i understand some people hate it but im polite enough to where if somebody asks me to put it out i will, then the goverment issued a smoke ban, now u have to be 200 Feet from the door of any club, bar, restaurant, business to be able to smoke a cigarrete.

i dont smoke in my car, i dont smoke in my house cuz it does stink and it is a disgusting habit, so smoking outside really doesnt affect me. so i agree with the Ban

Its funny to see al the teachers at my school in their cars at lunch, trying to cram as many cigarettes into their mouth at once and light them, because they havent had one for 4 hours then they get cranky and take it out on us

over here in Australia it has been banned in public places for at least a year
and i like it a lot, i can go around the shops and go to the beach with out other peoples smoking being inflicted upon me. i really noticed the difference once the ban started.
personaly i think smoking should be illegal but theres not much chance of that happening soon.

I think it should just because I can't stand the smell and it makes it hard for me to breathe. Also, it hurts the person smoking ans the people near by in the same way.
