    Is there away to take away the orange thing that highlights new programs?

    you mean on the all programs menu on the start menu?
    im on windows XP

    heres the fix
    go to Start>Control Panel>Task Bar and Start Menu
    click on the "Start Menu" tab
    click customize
    click the "Advanced" tab
    and uncheck the box that says "Highlight newly installed programs"

    and thats it
    hope it helps
