Walmart has a way of pointing the market in certain directions. The UMD movie was a miserable idea anyway. The average consumer isn't going to pay for a movie that has half the resolution and none of the features when they can get the full DVD for the SAME PRICE.

Say what you will about the PSP hardcore, it's the average consumer that drives the market.

I think it's safe to say that Sony has made a LOT of mistakes with the PSP.

I agree with you completely mofo. I just hope Sony can salvage some of its mistakes it has made in regards to the psp by making the ps3 and psp integrate so nicely that every person who owns a psp will want a ps3 and vise versa.

frankly i can give 2 sheits in a can about UMD movies... obtain the DVD or the video file and convert it

fuck movie UMDs waste of money, buy DVDs and memsticks instead

and i agree, sony has made a good handful of mistakes with the PSP, but it is their first handheld gaming system, so i am letting it slide... i mean how many portables has Pretendo gone thru before they got to their (perfect?) DS?

I agree with you completely......why pay money for a movie that you can just put on your memory stick from a DVD you've already purchased?

More bad news for Sony concerning UMD movies... Universal Studios and Image Studios will no longer release movies on UMD format. Looks like the UMD movie idea is dying...

UMD Fallout - Universal abandons format

    More movie disaster for PSP.

Both Universal & Image Entertainment have announced that they have abandoned the UMD format for future Movie Releases. Although Sony had hoped that this would be one of the major selling points for the handheld.

One Universal executive told the Hollywood Reporter: "It's awful. Sales are near zilch. It's another Sony bomb - like Blu-ray."

To make matters worse, many other studios such as Paramount, 20th Century Fox and Buena Vista are looking at there approach to the release of UMD's and have recently reduced release schedules.

Paramount spokeswoman Brenda Ciccone said: "We continue to evaluate the PSP platform for each title, and if it makes sense for business reasons and the target audience, we will release them.

"Our focus right now is much more aimed at HD at the moment, though."

With the need for the PSP to able to connect to a TV for a UMD purchase to make sense, I think that the UMD craze is bound to stay stagnant. Purchasing the Special Edition DVD, and using XVid or PSPVideo 9 to make the movie available on the PSP just makes more sense.
