ok, heres what i wanna do. i have a wired network in my home. theres a cable modem, a 4 port router, then i have lines going to my 2 computers and 2 lines going to my xboxes. now, my laptop has a external hard drive with all my music on it. id like to be able to access this hard drive from the pc in the basement, which is in my lil living room area. i cant move the external cause its wired in pretty good and it would be a pain to move it atm. any idea? i rather not install any software on my laptop, but i will if i have to on the desktop downstairs. i have xp home on both systems.. and i THINK they have some sorta option that has to be open but im not gonna play with it without any idea on what im doing. anyone know?

Well, couldn't you use shoutcast and just create your own internet radio station? Then again, that's software on your laptop
You could just host them all on like your email or something, AOL has unlimited storage for its' users

You need to ensure that file and printer sharing is enabled. The right click on the external drive from you laptop. Click the option for "Sharing and security". Click the option to "Share" and give the drive a name. Then you should see the drive while on you desktop. By default it will be read only, you can set the option for "Allow others to change my files" to allow the desktop to change the files on the external drive. Good luck
