I about fell out of my chair laughing when I read the verdict. This case has been going on for quite a while.

Thomas verdict: willful infringement, $1.92 million penalty - Ars Technica

Basically this lady used Kazaa to download mp3's and left them in her download folder for what must be presumed to be some time. She got busted seeding hundreds of songs, and the RIAA sued her for 24 of the said songs. While any sane person who knowingly is ripping off songs would just pay the out of court settlement of around $3k, she decided to make a stand and fight it in court.

She lost the case pretty horribly the first time around for obvious reasons of guilt. Some details include her kazaa username is the same username for all her emails and banking logins, she paid best buy nuke her hard drive after investigators told her to bring in her computer untampered, and she tried to say someone hacked her wifi even though she wasn't using a wireless router.

During that case she lost and was ordered to pay $9,250 per song (around $220k total.) The judge ended up declaring a mistrial for confusing jury instructions or some such. This time around she lost again and was ordered to pay $80k per song, or $1.92 MILLION. Lulz.

Not that I agree with the RIAA but the lesson to be learned here is even if your going to pirate, when you know its taking a risk, don't be an asshat if you get caught and try to "stand up to the bullies" when you are breaking the law. Pay the realtivly small fee and move on with your life.

Stupid analogy but I think it applies. You hate the gas companies and the price gouging that goes on at the pump, but most ppl dont pump gas then leave without paying......and even if you did and a cop tried to pull you over would you turn it into a high speed chase making the situation even worse? Think about it before you flame : P
