    depends what youre playing.

    racing - light trance such as paul van dyk, or eletronic based pop music such as girls aloud are popular choices with me

    fps - slayer, pantera, hatebreed, shadows fall, etc. anything fast and aggressive

    fallout 3 - expand on the existing soundtrack with popular music from the late 40s to mid 60s.

    atmospheric games (resident evil, silent hill, limbo) - skip music and play the game with all music disabled.

    Depends on how much I wanna nerd out that day. I'll usually listen to any kind of rap music to any kind of game, but if I wanna geek it up, i'll play my favorite OST of certain games like MGS1 or FFX stuff.

    For racing and FPS, I like heavy pissed off music, Pantera, FFDP, Slayer...calmer stuff like Black Sabbath, cky, Clutch, Seether work good too

    Depends on what type of games I am playing. Usually its rock/metal when playing action/shooter/fps games... Any music with a lot of angst! For strategy games (such as StarCraft 2 which I take seriously) I often play ambient music when I'm in the mood. Old Jazzy greats such as Miles Davis, Charlie Parker in almost zero volume but barely hearable... Thats what you call ambient!
