Which engine does it have? There are a bunch of different engines that these were available with.

No, leave it primered, that's badass. I would also consider painting it flat black.

    Oh, and check out TheSamba.com.

A person on another forum I'm on has one and it is pure awesome.

^^Thats the camper top, which is cool but i wouldnt want it.

I'm pretty sure its the 2.0L, but i'm not 100%.

Tbh, i dont even own it yet, i'm going to meet the guy tomorrow morning to officially buy it and transfer the title. He is asking $800 obo, so its a no brainer that i'm going to buy it. I've wanted one forever, but i've always wanted the 60s model with the V on the front, but i'll settle for a 79 seeing as any model is very difficult to find, much less at a deal like $800 (which i should be able to get down to $600, but even $800 is a great deal).

I'll have more pics tomorrow. I've already dug out my disco ball XD

I'm definitely painting it, but i'll work on the interior a little first so i can match the paint to the upholstery if i change anything inside. It needs a little bit of work, but it runs perfectly, its just cosmetic work from now on, which is exactly what i've always wanted. I can spend all my time and money focusing on making it pretty. My sister's fiance is a mechanic so he'd help me with any engine work i may need anyway. I can do most of it myself, but its good to have someone else who can help out.

Normally the grilles are painted to match the body, but i'm going to powder coat mine silver or get them chromed if its cheap enough. All the parts are there, like the lights, grilles, etc, he just took them off the prime it. I'm going to put suicide doors on it too, which looks insane on this body style. I'm not sure what other major mods i will do, but i have pretty good carpentry/metal work skills, so i can do everything myself and save a ton of cash.

I've had a piece of sapale mahagony in my garage for a few years and now i finally know what i'll use it for.

That is going to be the new dash/gauge cluster backing. My piece has a bit more character to it, more cross grain and more color variation.

    make it a transportable house.
a couple forums i used to visit were inhabited by hippies and several owned vans/buses that they turned into moving houses.
    I'm a fag.

the good thing about air cooled dubs is the community. some of the nicest people ive had the pleasure of socializing with.

get some classic wheels, lower it a bit, leave it in primer since primer and rust is considered cool in the air cooled scene, and do something with the bumpers. either shave them or color match them to the body, because theyre just ugly... and easily the worst thing about that generation of bus. if it was my bus, id get some nice reproduction bumpers that are either chromed or stainless.

and remember the one thing about air cooled vws: no matter how rough it is, how much rust it has, how many differerent color the body is, as long as it still runs and drives, its cool.

    oh, and they jump good
