Well... I was going to watch a movie, but noticed a crinkle sound as I put the tape into the VCR. (Yeah. It's a stupid VHS video tape, which is the source of the trouble.) I took it out and noticed that the very beginning of the tape was tangled! I took the tape out to try to untangle it, but it ripped! :( My first thought was "Damn... should probably throw it away now." But then I reconsidered...
So... I looked up a repair site thinking "Hmm.... it can't be that hard to fix one of these stupid things." I unscrewed the screws on the tape and took it apart to tape the pieces back together. After I taped the pieces together, the spring fell out of the front and onto the floor. I had to look for it, but once I found it, I put it back where it belonged. After that, I reassembled the tape and tested it in the VCR. It works! I am proud of my repair.

Now I think I'm going to watch the movie another night, though at least I know it's repaired. By the way, it was Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. I used the following link to help me out... along with some improvisation.

What do you people think? Ever tried to repair something like this while having no clue what you're doing at first? Success? Failure? Post what happened.

nice job. isnt it a good feeling when something breaks, and you're clueless what to do at first, but you eventually end up fixing it?

my electric guitar's gone through a lot of falling apart when moving, and i've been able to fix it everytime. maybe you could make a tape fixing business?

Haha, I had that exact feeling, Ray, except with my Dell. I fucked that computer up and fixed it by myself so many times it wasn't funny <_< It's basically how I learned the little bit of hardware repair I know. I can't do much of the hard stuff, but I can assemble PCs >_>

You wont believe this, but i once accedentally broke a computer terminal into pieces by droping it. (I was in school) So as everone was laughing, I paniced like a manic to put it back together, (teacher went out for a coffee..... Yeah hes a bad teacher). So I screwed so shit back together, put in some drives, (you can tell i've never seen the inside of a computer before...) And put it back to close of what it once was, and plugged it in. So, teacher came back 5 mins later, looked at the monitor and said, "Who did this?" Everone of couse pointed to me..... He came over, and I started trying to weasel out with the usual "It was an accident, I didn't mean to..." He just came over and shoke my hand and said, " I tried everything for the past 2 years to get this computer running, my hats of to you." I literally almost crapped my pants. Got an A in that class though.

Moral of the story is: Always screw with stuff.

always screw with stuff....but not in "that" way, if you catch my drift.

this isnt an electronic fix thing....but still kinda fits. my friends bike chain shattered. i dont mean it fell off, i mean it shattered. after looking at it a while i figured something out. it doesnt need the actual chain...just something that fits in the gear. i found a big, wide rubberband at ace hardware(best place next to walmart), cut some holes in it so that it would go in the gear, and tested it out. it worked for about 20 minutes......then the rubberband snapped......hey at least i tried
