My brother really got screwed over on his first day. His friends are only in a few of his classes. He also didn't get most of the classes he wanted, even though some of them barely had any students.
Here's the one that really makes me angry...
New rule: Homework is required for every class every day. (except maybe things like gym) WTF? I'm glad I'm out of that hellhole!

Many students hate school. In America, the schools aren't doing as well as schools in other countries. So... they give more homework to make students hate school even more? Where the hell is the logic in that?!

    hahaha, American Education system. hahahaha.

no, really, that's all I can think of to say. ._. Our education is about like our legal system.

    Fucked. up.

Sorry to hear your bro is going to overdose on homework pretty soon :/

Damn that sucks. And the part about "give more homework so we'll be able to catch up" is basically a crap system. Shouldn't kids you know..be taught more during school and know how to do things before being slammed with homework?

    Ridiculous.

Actually I noticed people from like India and China are VERY smart. Their grade 1 is like our grade 4-5. I remember my grad year, we had a chinese student, who just moved here. He knew everything in math class, got 95% or higher on all tests/quizes.. He even aced the midterm..

The problem in America is were lazy.. fat.. lazy.. LOL! it's the truth.

As for your bro's classes, it's good he isn't with many friends, now he can work harder without distractions!

    Gimpy, aren't you from Canada?

And I don't think it's that we're "fat" or "lazy"... not everyone is anyway! I think the school system is the problem. And in some cases, other countries might be just as bad. It shouldn't be solely about working hard... it should be about learning. If something can be taught in a fun and/or easy way that doesn't involve too much work, but still gets the point across, then that's probably the best. I guess in some cases it also depends on the student's needs. One student might need to do a lot of work to understand something while another can pick up on it extremely fast. Maybe we need more specialized classes for different types of students? Though then, students would feel like they're being discriminated against if they end up in a class they don't want... but I guess it could be optional.... that would take care of it.

My brother rarely ends up with friends in his classes. He also has good grades anyway. It would be a good thing for him to have some of his friends in his classes for once. School would be a bit less miserable.

School isnt to be with your friends. it's to learn. also he probably didn't get all the classes he wanted cause they couldn't fit into the schedule. And maybe homework is required now bwcause kids slack off too damn much.

You're kinda wrong. Part of school is socializing. But yeah, the main point is to learn, which he's not really having any trouble with anyway.

They lied to him about one of the classes he wanted. They told him it was full, but he checked to find out that wasn't true. Guess what? They still wouldn't give him the class.

Kids slack off too much so they should get more homework? More homework that the slackers won't do anyway? How is that going to help? :weird: And what about people that do just fine without homework? It only gets in the way for them.

maybe the period that wasn't full couldn't fit into his schedule

kids that don't do their homework will fail... they don't care so why should they pass and just because someone does just fine without homework doesn't mean it's a waste..

example: someone can read... should they not read cause they know how to? no, it still helps them get smarter

Yeah, maybe. It just seems a little unfair that he keeps missing out on most of the classes he wants.

Actually, I knew a few people that did okay and skipped a lot of homework. Their grades would have been better if they had done the homework, but the bad grades weren't necessarily because they weren't smart.

I'm not saying homework should never, ever be given, but a rule that requires it is just stupid! Teachers will start giving out busywork just so they can say they gave the students an assignment.

But anyway, maybe the problem isn't necessarily homework specifically, but the way testing and grades work...

If someone fails a test, then they usually don't get another chance to retake it. How can you learn from mistakes when you don't get a chance to try again? Someone that cares could probably study and get a better grade, but that option isn't always there. It doesn't seem fair.

Yeah, that's the truth. But sometimes there's too much pressure over homework. Teachers grade homework in an attempt to force students to actually do it. That's an effective strategy, but it's unfair to students. Why? Because some of them might genuinely just not understand the material yet... especially when it comes to math. All it does is stress those students and hurt their grades... and they often aren't given another chance to redo the assignment.

Homework can be good or bad. Having a lot of homework every day in every class can be way too much work, though. Either way, the only real reason I see for them to increase homework is because they're not doing good enough in their own time, so they need to extend over into MORE of the student's personal life...? I'm not one to question methods that actually work, but our education system obviously has some flaws >_>;...

well college is some what easier.. but more pressure. I only have classes from mon-thur so I get 3 days off.

But even then.. the amount of HW and memorization and lab work takes up most of my time.

yeah, I guess the extra days off college students get can make things quite a bit better. though colleges usually give a lot more work... like HUGE reports you could never imagine in high school.
