Aight guys, heres the situation. My parents are looking into buying a new TV. Currently we have a regular old 36" TV. My parents came home today, they went to go look at some TV's. They talked to a guy and he was telling them to get an LCD screen because they're the best and no matter what hapens in the future to TV's, LCD's will still be there. He also said Plasmas are good but after about 5 years they start to fade and you have to get them upgraded/or redone or something, im not sure.

They were looking at this TV here:
    http://www.electronicexpress.com/product?prod_id=9474

If you guys have any advice for what kind of TV they should get, know a website where prices are cheap, or anything to help me out. Please, tell me.

    Thanks guys.

I would not go for an LCD, but for a DLP.

I've been comparing a lot of them lately, because I am also considering to buy a new tv.

like: Mitsubishi 73" 1080p DLP Projection HDTV

    like $7000
    that's why I don't have it yet
first need to find the idiots that will finance me

    but this is extremely big.
If you would like to buy around the same screen size you mentioned, 42",
it is probably around the same price as that tv in your link, maybe a little more.

But I would choose for DLP.

    Haha.

But you had me searching around. Found some good deals on TV's that are DLP bigger than 42".
    Is DLP better than LCD?

    In my opinion: yes.
You also don't have the glare on your screen when there is a light shining on it. Like daylight or just a lamp or something.

I would also look into the technology of the 2; LCD and DLP.
So that when you go and buy one, you know more than the sales person. Because those people don't know what they are talking about in general.

Well, I just showed my parents about the DLP screens and, I dont really know what the big difference is. You say DLP is better than LCD, is there a reason or you just favor it. DLP's or less expensive than LCD's as well. Does that mean LCD's are better?Or what. I would search but its all too confusing for me.

    ok read this:
    DLP and LCD compared http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/fea...lp-vs-lcd.html

they don't really use technical terms, so just read it, and let your parents read it and see what you think is best.

Also just go to the store and look at them.
Scientific facts, numbers and someone else's opinion are not as important as what you like yourself.
You guys are the one who will have that tv for a couple of years, make sure you like what you see.

Thanks so much for that link, Ill be reading it.

And yes, I totally agree with what you say, its more than numbers, other peoples opinions and stuff. But it does play a big role. You don't want something that will last you for a few years then break down or something. You want the best of the best.

    But thanks once again man.

Nothings wrong with the TV we have now. My sister lives in an apartment and her TV is in the main room in her apartment so she doesn't have one in her room. If we got a new one the one we currently have would go into her apartment in the main room and she could have her TV in her room. Also, we've had this TV for 5 years and we'd like a new one. The picture isn't all that great, but the sound is very good. Its basically just an upgrade, and im pumped!!!

i gave JR some tips on tv buying, so ill pass them on here.

    1. never buy a tv online. ever. no exceptions. always purchase your new set at a ELECTRONICS STORE. not walmart of a department store. if u have a problem and have to return a tv, it sucks trying to ship it back to the company. stores are easier

    2. reason i reccomend a eletronics store: u can see excatly what your buyin. aslo, ask the store associates to hook up a dvd player or game system so u can see the quality. aslo, get them to show it to u without the stores main feed. this has a way of degrading the quality of the onscreen images.

    3. most major stores offer insurance on eletronics. spend the extra cash and get it. best buy covers their shit for months after the company stops covering it. nice to know u have a lil incentive
