so ive been ripping my own music in .mp3 for as long as remember, then i had a revelation. i installed a program that was suppose to join files into one single audio file to make it seamless... well, to make a long story short, it classified my ripped files as "awful" as in sound quality. this leads me to wonder if theres better formats to rip cds to, if they will work in winamp (m4a doesnt... without a plugin) and how much the different formats use up in terms of space. any ideas?

i like wma, its smaller (a little less than half an mp3) and sounds better.

i never got good results with ripping music via WMP. it always comes out fuzzy or sounding like its being played inside a box with the top open

the best quality you can possibly get is uncompressed wav with 30-40mb or larger files, lol. but seriously, all my music is mp3, and it's sounds every bit as good as a cd. I really don't notice a difference, like between 1080i and 1080p, lol. who gives a shit if there's a couple more pixels per inch, still looks better than tv, lol.

I personally like .ogg, just cuse I don't want to conform XD. I use DB Poweramp to convert my music... I usually get smaller sizes for audio, and the difference between .ogg and .wma is barely noticeable.

I'm still ripping everything to mp3. It's good enough for me, so why change?
(damn I just sound like a grandpa, lol)

mp3 is pretty damn good quality, but it takes up a lot of space. I go with wma (only on my mp3 player because it's only got 5 gig storage) because of the smaller filesize.
Today has been the most beautiful day I've ever seen.

I've always ripped to .mp3 but I think I might experiment with the formats that the PSP plays since I use my PSP for music as well.
