Xbox3600-Elite vs. Normal
alright. i'm HIGHLY considering buying an xbox360. i was just wondering if the xbox360 elite is worth the money or not? when i think about it i wouldnt mind 120gig hard drive but i dont know if i'll need it. i'm not sure if 30gigs is enough to last me, not like i'm a download whore but i do plan on dl'ing games from xbox live arcade every now and then. i guess one more thing about the elite that i like is the color, i cant stand the white color of the normal 30gig version but i could always buy a skin or sumthing to put over my case and probably for my controller as well. i also dont own an HD TV so the hdmi support on the elite wont be much use for me, and i dont plan on buying an HD TV in the near future so yeah.....but i guess its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it (if that made sense). anyway throw sum opinions at me, is the elite really worth it? and one last thing, possible price cut anytime soon?

First off the xbox360 is 20 gigs (8 are used by system) so you are only left with 12. If you have a HDTV then yes go with the elite if not save the money and then get the regular 360 premium and if you are planning to put a lot of music and are going to download a lot of demos/videos then buy a 360core then the 120gig harddrive.
I personally have a core and I still have 11gigs free since you can hook up an iPod or PSP to it and listen to music, no sense of ripping cd's to the harddrive.
If you are going to buy an elite only because of black, just buy a black case for it (VOIDS WARRENTY)
And no a price cut will not probally happen anytime soon.

well if i buy a core system how much would a hard drive cost me? i know i wont use 120gigs, not even close. i have a 30gig ipod and havent even half filled it with music yet. do wireless controllers work with the core system? i'll more than likely just buy the premium system with the 20gig hard drive and just hope to god i dont run out of space. how much does the average save file take up? hope its not as bad as ps3, my friend had oblivion on the ps3 and it literally took up 4.6gigs of space to save his game file. also, if i buy one of those gamergraphics skinz and an official faceplate and put them on that wont void my warranty will it?

bigger HDD, black, and HDMI support for an extra $79. wireless controllers work they just dont come with stock, core has no HDD and game saves are 1-2mb. also you can stream music wirelessly if its on a windows pc. |

Core is $300 and the hdd (20gig) is $100 and the (120gig) is $179.99
So you can buy a Premium for $400 and if you want the 120gig it will be total of $579.99 or a core with the 120gig and it will be $479.99

i dont really want a 120gig hard drive, are their any other size hard drives available? i'll probably just buy a premium. another thing, if i already own an external hard drive is there anyway i could just use that or do i have to buy an official xbox hard drive?

thanks for the help guys. looks like i'll just buy a premium and if i ever run out of room i guess i'll just have to fork out the cash for a hard drive. i got one last question and its kinda unrelated but i dont feel like makin a new topic for it lol. are their any offbrand wireless controllers for the 360 that are any good? the main reason i'm asking is cuz my friend has a 360 and we are always going head to head on DOA4 but i prefer to use the d-pad and the d-pad on the official xbox brand controller SUCKS MAJOR. i cant stand using the analog stick for fighting games so i need a good offbrand controller that doesnt have a shitty d-pad situation going on. thanks again...

you can't use external hds for gamesaves, but you can play videos, music and view pictures from them...if thats what floats your boat.

You should probably hold of on the 360 until around Christmas time if your willing. Because then surely the elite will go down to around $400 especially sense Microsoft has developed a new chip that is easier/cheaper to produce. |

Well being a 360 owner I would suggest gettin the 120gb just because i got the 20gb one and i have like no space left, i got liek almost 10 game demos, and the reg demos ( not arcade ) are like 1 gig each, + theres videos you can download, some free ( if u kno where and "when" to look. I would love to download more demos but sadly no room =( plus i downloaded the Oblivion Expansion and that took a decent amount of space up.

Go with the premium...few weeks ago same debate for me
if you want lots of demos go with the elite and i mean you wont delete demos...there is really no reason for the 120gb hdd and the elite picture is only better on 1080p tvs |

The chip is to help with the RRoD problem they are having.
If I had the monies I would go with a core, open the case and pimp it with a black /blue led X with custom venting and maybe 120mm fans (or bigger). Pop in a 300GB hdd and enjoy the system after a quick linux hack. Perhaps a future project for kicks. I'll be buying a prem system later around august/september as a birthday present for myself. Rather buy it new than go with a used system incase the RRoD does occur. |
