Modchipping a Wii
Anyone know how hard it is to put the "WiiKey" modchip in a Wii?

It's not worth chipping a Wii right now. You really wouldn't get much out of one. |

The Soldering Connections are TINY you need to have the appropriate solder, wire, and soldering gun. Also you need to have a Triwing screwdriver to actually access the inside of the Wii. I opened mine up and seen how small the connections are and said forget it. I had someone else do mine for me. Also make sure that whoever is installing your Wiikey Is experienced in what kind of chip you have, if the chip needs to be flashed or not can make a huge difference.
Good luck! |

The Nintendo fanboy I bought my psp off of modded his Wii with a chip. He said it was surprisingly simple to do and since has not had a problem at all with it. He says he also is able to play iso burned games without a hitch.
I would say if your good with a soldering iron or know some one that is then it shouldn't be a problem to do. But just remember, any modding you do to anything has the risk of damaging it.
OH! and BTW. If I had a Wii. I would have already chipped it also |

I have a wiikey in mine, and the one of my jackass friends ran the update. It did not brick, but now I cannot load burned GC games, which includes the wiikey utility disk since it plays as a GC game. Don't fret however, wiikey is hard at work coming out with a new bootable utilities disk that will work with the new FW. In any event I can still get my wii game on as long as the disk is NTSc, it also prevents the PAL disks from playing. In the end nintendo is not really trying all that hard to put a stop to it. I obtained a NTSC .iso and played it update and all. |
