The dead of PS2
PS2 isn't dying, and it won't be dead for a long time. Developers are still making games for it, and will probably still continue to make games for it for years. There's a couple of solid reasons why -
The PS2, Wii, and standard 360 all use the same disc capacity for a game. As long as that hold's true, any game developed for the Wii or for the Xbox *can be* ported down to the PS2, and a lot of them still will be.
The only real problem the PS2 faces is that PS3 is no longer backwards compatible. Well, at least the new/popular/cheap model. If it had maintained the backwards compatibility, there would have been a surge in PS2 games, because the audience expanded.
You'll see a slow drip of PS2 games this holiday season, because the consoles that are selling don't support PS2 games at the moment. Once the holiday rush is over, they'll continue supporting the PS2 with new developments. After all, they still need to cater to the 120 million PS2 systems that Sony has sold in the last seven years. |
