i thought this was going to be the best game in history, better than gta4, but its like not so cool, i mean i never played a metal gear game before, so maybe i am missing some parts, i understand the story, but still it is more like a movie, than a game dont get me wrong it has awesome cutscenes, but the game itself....? i thought i game is what people play, not watch, really this should be a movie , i got the game thursday, and i am at the end of act 4, i am on the boss mode, and i did have to work and go other places, so its not like i had it all day, total playing time 12hrs, can anyone tell me why this game is really not living up to its hype? i mean it took me a month to beat gta4 (40hrs) and its only gonna take me less than a week to beat mgs4 on its hard mode? wtf?!?!?! i swear i hype act 5 is worth it, cuz act 3 sucked, the only good part was the ending when liquid took control (that part was super awesome) but still i would like to use snake more, and whats up with the beginning of shadow moses? you play for like 2mins and it goes back to the future...maybe kojima was on that ching-ching

I think one of the main things for this game was to wrap up the story, tie up loose ends, and finally end the series. That's why there are so many movies in this one.

u hit the nail right on the head.
people who NEVER played MGS4 dont understand that MGS4 is to wrap up the Solid Snake story and because they dont understand that, they say the game is stupid.
of course if u just jump into the last game of the Solid Snake story you arent going to think its amazing and not see why everyone loves it....especially die hard GTA4 fans.....
thats like watching Lord of the Rings: Return of the King thinking that its going to have a separate plot and is going to be the biggest most battle filled movie in the series, when it is to finish up the story of the stupid little hobbits and goblins.

If you don't know the MGS storyline, of course you wont like the game.

It's not like a Halo game where you don't need the [horrible] story line to play the game.

Or the GTA series, where it's just a new character/story line each game, and you basically do the same missions, and just shoot people.

It's totally different. You should have rent/bought mgs1-3 (excluding the MSX series, of course) and played and knew the story before playing MGS4, as it's more of a story game then a shooting game.

That's the sad thing too, no offense. People now just want FPS, or action games that follow no story line, or have a somewhat sequel, and people that buy a game like this are like "I are going to get cuz other pplzz luv it", then play it and have no clue wtf is going on and are like "It's horrible, GTA FTW".

To be totally honest, it's the best game I've played since MGS3.. Other games were cool, GTAIII, GeOW, GTAIV, but MGS4 not only has amazing graphics & game play, but stays with the story line, which 90% of other games don't do. I don't want to go into a detail 'rant', but how many other games can you name that have a TRUE story line? The COD series, no, the Halo series? Has a story line, but it's repetitive, you do the same shit every time, go here destroy this, enable this, destroy the ring, etc. Gears? Most likely not, and even GTA, first game you didn't even have a set character, the second one has a set character, Claude Speed, but you only seem him back in #3, if it's the same Claude, however the cities in the game are future games (liberty city, #3, vice city, #4, and san andreas, #5). The 4th game, no not GTAIV, you are Tommy Vercetti, then the #5 game you are CJ, and now in the 6th game, for you new GTA players thats GTAIV, technically 9th, but who wants to go there? you are Niko..

Confusing as hell but just another shooting game. I'm not bashing at GTAIV, as it's one of the few games that I actually like.

So if you want to know why this game got a 10/10 go out and rent the mgs series, then you'll appreciate mgs4 better. It'll explain A LOT of things.

ok, its not the point i dont like...dont get me wrong the story deserves a 20 out of 10..yes it was that good, i understood it perfectly from the flashbacks, but i paid $60 to play a game not watch a movie, i understand that this is a stealth game, but not every 5mins there should a cutscene, i mean i want to play with snake more, you know make my own decisions, not let the game make them, but then again i guess i am just picking, now if it was less cutscenes, i would absoulutely love this game, but really and people have to agree with me, this a interactive blu-ray movie, not a ps3 game. im not saying that this is a bad game, im just saying a game is meant to be played not watch...now i love the game play and octocamo, facecamo, the boss, and crouching and other stuff, but i guess its not my type, so i traded it in...i dont see how people hate GTA but loved MGS, i understnad what bacon said about it being differently, but i guess everyone has their opinions, sorry i repeated myself, but im too lazy to edit

I don't hate GTA, but I'm really not super impressed like it's been talked about in the news. It's the same game it's been since SA, just new people, a new city, and new graphics.

Maybe I'm not impressed with it since I've played GTA #1, #2, #3, VC, SA, VC/LC:stories, and GTA:IV, gets boring after the 8th game..

i am going to take what you said earlier, the actual structure of gta is the same of course, but the game is different, with a whole lot of new features, thats like playing a MGS without the cutscenes, if R* made a gta where it was not going to a point a killing someone then it would just be boring because that is what we are used to, am i correct? correct me if im wrong

That's what you're used to, a sandbox shooting game, which GTA is.. If you love that, that's why GTA is for you. But like I said, after the 8th game, I got bored of it.

I agree MGS4 has a lot of cut scenes, but the series was always like that. It took you 12 hours, that's pretty fast, most of the people that I've talked to said took them roughly 20 hours or so. GTA may have been 40 hours, but [to me] was nothing like jaw dropping.

yes everyone has their opinions, but i dont think anygame deserves a ten, not even gta4, mgs4, zelda, because they do have their flaws, to get a get a 10, it has to be flawless, which will never happen because NO ONE is perfect...maybe kojima is a genius, but just because you have an epic idea, doesnt mean you can make a truly (a ten) epic game, i enjoyed the game, but its just not my cup of tea, up next: Madden 09, hopefully they will fix ALL the bugs, and the horrible online server

meh, 10/10 doesnt necessarily have to be flawless, your right each game has its flaws but unless it totally affects the gameplay there isnt much to do w/ that category

I finished the game today, and really liked it a lot.

I bought that domain about a week or so before the game came out. The game has inspired me to start a community with it, and not just auction the hell out of the domain ;P

yeah you're right all the gta games have the same theme only thing i really like about gta 4 is the online gameplay thats the only thing that was actually different from the other gta games. Basically gta games are games that just expand the missions from one game to another.....so in reality you are just playing one gta game....let the force guide you young skywalker.....yeah i dunno where that came from.....

OK, wow, now I'm stealing a car for this guy. Oh wow, now I'm stealing one from him. Oh wow, now I need to go get it painted.

No offense, but that is just how it was for my GTA experience =/

I love GTA, but for only one reason, I DONT HAVE TO DO THE MISSIONS. I just get the cheats, fly around in a plane, and blow shit up, see how long i can run from the army, etc.

Now i know GTA is supposed to be about the missions, but come on, you gotta change something? Its basically run an errand for him, kill him, steal this, steal that. Its really annoying how it repeats.

So the only way i could find entertainment in it is by playing everything besides the missions..
