PS3 question: HDD upgrade and two user accounts
Is anyone here familiar enough with the PS3 back-up utility to be able to tell me if I need to run it on both the user accounts before I switch out the hard drive. Or is one of them enough? I can't seem to find a clear answer anywhere... |

PS3 question: HDD upgrade and two user accounts
The PS3 Back UP Ultility will back up all your data on your PS3 - Everything - Games - Movies - Music - Photos - Accounts - Bookmarks - Every Setting Possible. You need to back it up to a External HDD or a large USB Drive if you want to do it.
If you're going to buy a new HDD, take the old one with you so you don't fuck up and buy something you don't need. |

I'm buying a Seagate Momentus. 500GB of 7200rpm sexiness. It's will be excellent. |

The PS3 takes a 2.5" HDD, and the Barracudas are 3.5". Laptop drives, not desktop drives, in other words. |

The PS3 is already very big; they wouldn't need to change its size to accommodate a 3.5" drive. I mean, come on, even the original Xbox uses a 3.5" drive. Why in the hell would you require a 2.5" drive? They cost more and have lower capacities. I mean, unless they made deals with HDD manufacturing companies to sell more 2.5", this was a completely stupid move.

Can't say I disagree either, I'd have loved having a cheaper HDD with higher capacity for an upgrade.
That said, my 500MB drive arrives Wednesday, according to UPS. I'll report back.
EDIT:
Faster drive = Shorter load times. Me like! Also, lots of space is nice, nice, nice.
And for the record, making the hard drive screws from very soft aluminum and then machine-tighten them was a really dumb idea! Seriously.

Reason: upgrade results!
